Jennifer Carpenter's performance in this film was so damn believable.

Emily’s story is SO tragic and I think the ongoing trauma she endured on so many levels is what scares me the most.

I'm here to say how much your content means to me. So well researched, written, narrated and edited. You are on another league. Keep up!

It's odd that the modern depiction of Heaven/Hell that is accepted by most christians isn't from the bible. It's from Dante's Inferno and Paradise Lost. It's like if someone wrote Star Wars fan fiction and 1000 years later it was accepted as canon

I've never seen this movie but the cinematography really unsettles me. You're right, it's very cold. Great video!

Ryan: "The Exorcist pretty much said all there is to say about Exorcism"
Emily Rose: OBJECTION!

I saw this one accidentally when i was like 8 years old and felt so scared. Then i saw it ten years later and realised how sad it is. How sad it is to lose someone and it doesent matter how and why. The person close to you is gone and nothing can change that. And i felt sad for her even more. Sry for long comment. Thanks for another amazing video.

Id love to watch an Exorcism film where theres absolutely no demons and no supernatural occurrences and they show in brutal detail how the mentally ill were treated during these times during the exorcism craze. People always like to ignore the fact that exorcisms were mainly used to “treat” people who struggled with types of psychosis and other mental disorders, thus convincing the families that they were actually possessed by a demon. I remember watching an exorcism film that touched on this, but in the end they made it pretty clear that the girl was actually possessed. I dont think there will be a film that would perfectly capture the true horror behind how horrific people treated the mentally ill without putting some kind of supernatural element into it, I guess such horrors can only be given justice within documentaries

I disagree that the film has a neutral perspective. It very clearly leans heavily towards the "it was all real" side as the story progresses, mostly due to how it frames everything, although I guess one could argue that reality is biased towards the unreality, depending on how closely the dialogue is based on actual court transcripts and personal accounts. I think most of this just comes down to the fact that we're seeing things through Erin's and Father Moore's eyes, though.

That being said, great video as always. I appreciate the analysis of Emily's character and autonomy.

Imo, watching Ryan's analysis is a wayyy more intriguing and thought-provoking experience than watching the movie itself a lot of the time (at least to a uninformed, casual moviegoer like myself lol). It's always so cool to be transported into the mind of someone who's able to pick apart these films and really appreciate them

jk, loving all your content and how much research and work you put into every video. Really spotlights movies that I'd forgotten or given a pass to. Love all of it, especially the narration!!

This movie is terrifying because for some people, the constant fear and paranoia that Emily feels is their entire world. When it comes to people with mental illness like schizophrenia, your entire reality is that people are out to get you. You don't know that you're sick, and your every waking hour is filled with horrors that aren't even real. My grandmother had schizophrenia, and seeing the way that Jennifer Carpenter played Emily brought me to tears.

The Scene in Bar had me scares for REAL. Especially when the demons started revealing their names. I slept with the lights on that night

So many films do not come across as nearly tragic, deep, or profound until Ryan explains it. I love channels where I can get fresh perspective.
