Something I always wonder about hema (not while watching this vid specific. but I just thought of it again. And considering your experience, you might know an answer):
Why do people rarely leave the line of attack? Like, take a step to the side, maybe? Do they forget about it in the heat of the moment? Is it a bad idea that will get you killed? Or are those usually point sparring situations where you get banned for using moves that actually work? I'm really cluesless here...

I've had almost the exact same exchange several times but I have short arms so I usually get nicked in the face for a double. Any advice for working around this?

Did your style change? Assuming 3rd in a stable guard position, you look much more classical now as taught by the FMCP program (Nadi, Gaugler, Sullins, etc.)
