Don't forget, one of the benefits of the Saber is that it's a one handed weapon, so you can use another weapon or a shield with it.

these duels typically ends with the Katana user switching to use their sword single handedly.

I am a kenjutsu practitioner first and hema newbie second. I definitely find katana vs saber to be the hardest matchup to deal with. Using a wakizashi seems like the reasonable play and the only time i can stay constantly safe while attacking. The katana excels as a every day carry weapon but as a dueling weapon the saber is a killer. In shinkage ryu most of our kata that reference longer reach or speed is usually countered by two a two sword approach. I cant think of a reliable play to make two handed katana more advantageous than a skilled saber fencee. Its really hard to get any bind on it.

I'm an escrimador. One of the most annoying opponents I ever fought was a fencer.

It's incredibly interesting to think about how fights like this between these exact weapons happened at one point

In May 1976, at the invitation of the Japanese Embassy, a group known to the All-Japan Kendo Federation visited Poland for visits and regular training in Polish kenshi. The fantastic Polish fencer Wojciech Zabłocki - Olympic medalist from Melbourne, Rome and Tokyo - was also invited to keiko. According to reports, the fights ended in a draw

Just wanted to say that you're a major inspiration for my joining my local HEMA club! Turns out they do sabre and longsword, so I've been learning how to do the European style sabre (as opposed to the Olympic style I'm used to) and watching you is a huge boost of inspiration for what I can aspire to!

Sabre is the pinnacle of sword technology. Fast and it protects your hands.

Мало какая техника так изящна, но польская сабля это прекрасно.

In 1905, a battle took place in Eastern Manchuria between a Russian army officer, a Serb by nationality, Lexo (Alexander) Saichich, and a Japanese samurai warrior. The Russian saber against the Japanese katana. Russian/European style of fighting versus Japanese style of fighting. The fight ended with the death of the samurai, Lexo received a cut on his forehead.

There is no need to criticize the katana because in the past it was something to preserve life, but now it is a sport. However, the problem is with the user.

Your fights are really impressive, but quite hard to follow and to get who's made the touch. You thought about red circling the point of touch ?

Remember, the weapon is only as good as his wielder. And it's maybe because you use a katana like a longsword or a feder
