From 1993 - 1996 I was on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corp. I was stationed with the 12th Marine Regiment. at Camp Foster on the island of Okinawa, and there was no Taco Bell. We had McDonalds, Burger King, KFC and eventually Subway, and no Taco Bell. It was just the general feeling of sadness that we had to live with. One day a barracks mate said, "You got to see this!" His wife had sent him a VHS tape of the soap opera that they followed. He found that she had also recorded a commercial, for Taco Bell. I cannot express justly the feeling torturous joy that was given to us all. We rewound that a few times.

Upon return to the U.S. I flew in LAX and boarded a bus heading to Camp Pedleton for seperation. My four years were at an end. As the bus left the LA airport we traveled down Century Blvd head for the 405 freeway. I had grown up in this area of Los Angeles as a kid. I can still hear the airplanes. I knew one thing that most on the bus did not. In a few minutes we were going to pass a Taco Bell. I quietly alerted the Marine next to me to watch for it. It was going to be a soothing sight.

Just as we approached, the driver got on the speaker and said:
"Don't panic, I'm going to stop at the Taco Bell
welcome home."

The Taco Bell Grande was an extra large crispy taco. It was awesome, and I wish they’d bring it back! They used to have Chili Burgers too

Mr. Bell should thank Mitla Cafe (the San Bernardino Mexican restaurant mentioned at 0:43) of this video. Mitla Cafe (founded in 1937) is still operating at 602 N. Mt. Vernon Ave., San Bernardino, CA 92411.

Before everyone eating healthy in the 2000s, I quit McDonalds in the early 1990s and started eating a Taco Bell.

The Taco Bell Grande was a huge taco, very similar to the Taco Supreme, but huge, all worth the 99 cents that they charged for it.

I used to work for Taco Bell for much of the 1980s. Based on my memory, Taco Bell came out with Cinnamon Crispas in the early Summer of 1980. In 1981, they introduced the Taco Bellgrande. In 82, the Taco Light. I think early 83, nachos and later, Nachos Bellgrande. In 84 the Taco Salad. Late 84 I transferred to an R&D store that test-marketed new items. It was the first Taco Bell to have the Mexican Pizza. Test sales were positive and in 85, it went on a national rollout. The name was tweaked to become known as Pizzaz Pizza. That name stuck for about 3 years then they decided to call it Mexican Pizza forevermore. By 1986, we started testing breakfast with mixed results. My first job was the Taco Bell at Beach & Katella in Stanton, CA. Taco Bell started out in Downey in 1962. THIS one was only the 11th Taco Bell ever built, being in 63. Building is still there although now a burger joint. Is this TMI?

What about last year when they introduced their crispy chicken nachos or whatever, then later they made a crispy chicken quesadilla (man were both of those the bomb)!! Then this year, they introduced both the nacho fries, and the double chalupa and man were those tasty!! 😋😋 Now they reintroduced the rolled chicken tacos that were first introduced in 2015 and those are still the bomb to this day!! 😋😋

A lot of people think Taco Bell is “Tex-Mex”. This is far from the truth! It’s fake Mexican food from California! However, I fucking love 7-Layer Burritos, Mexican Pizzas, and Meximelts. However I think all these have been discontinued. :(
