She is the one and only champion in the entire game who nullifies any kind of skill expression all the other champions have: Avoiding the threats the enemy team might throw at you. Permanent untargetability is not a good design in any possible way. Her enchanting abilities are perfectly fine. It‘s just - I‘ll say it once more - her W ability. In that single ability lies the issue of her entire existence. Yes, she is entirely useless on her own and relies on her teammates to be, well, a champion. But still. They really need to rework that specific ability.

I remember it differently.
I remember they first reworked him at the start of the event and Captian GP was his default. Then he died after some time, was unplayable, and then came back but with a new default look and Captain GP became a legacy skin for those that had him before his "death"

Just FYI they also removed jax shortly after releasing him, hence why he says "im back". The reason was because his original dodge chance was so OP he could spawn dive without lifesteal and not die, and had a permanent 100% dodge chance

Actually this somewhat happened to Skeleton King in DOTA 2 where they made an event to transform him to Wraith King.

It was so awesome, they reworked him so you played the rework, then he DIED and then when he came back he was current GP and the "rework" became a skin

Okay I was a gangplank main when this happened but

1. The Bilgewater Rework was a rework for Gangplank and a lore retcon for everyone else involved with him.

2. Gangplank getting killed off was also to hide the fact that he was incredibly buggy and unbalanced after the rework. Barrels at the time ignored 50% armor and could critically strike. His original rework look is what is now the skin called captain Gangplank which was awarded for free for every person who had him before and during the rework.

3. The Death of Gangplank was also used as an excuse to nerf his abilities and fix bugs
