I Realize I misspoke on the hardener . You need more hardener than you normally put in so for instance if it is a 4 to 1 product you want 3 to 1 in the topcoat. More hardener than usual. this will allow the new paint to harden the undercoats.

As an old school painter I have never added harder into metallic base coat as I find the finish cleaner and no blotching and once the clearcoat is applied, it will harden the base coat, so yes it works and I've done this method for many years.

I was happy to listen to your video after my blunder. I had polished my headlights and applied 2K Clear but used reducer in place of hardener (same size can) accidentally. Fount out after I was cleaning up my gun and puttig things away. I decided to mix another batch of clear but this time with Hardener. It seems to be working. Your video is giving me hope. thanks

Mike fn garage, here's a big fat thank you brother.
Your instructional video and your experience saved my day on a custom tour pack for my Harley.
To the other guys, a piece of advice, don't listen to the nay sayers it works on acrylic urethane Jet black color, single stage paint.
Mike, I mixed 1cup of paint with 1/3cup + a small splash of fast hardener, a small amount of fast reducer.
It worked great, it started harding almost text book timing.
Thanks brother my buddies (the nay sayers lol) can't believe it.
High gloss to the point of blinding in the sun.
My buddies think I'm the paint wizard now.
Well done Mike!

hi I just panted a c10 cab inside and out with summit 2k primer and added reducer instead of activator by mistake it seemed to dry and sand normal the next day I painted over it with single stage flat black I did add the activator to the black...just now realized I didn't add the activator to the primer... do I have to completely strip the cab and start over?

problem here !!. I painted with Nason FUL-Thane Urethane SS. a 2K spray can. This can has a valve down ... I think to release the hardener? The thing is that apparently it did not press that valve well and the paint after 6 hours is still somewhat sticky. can I put another hand on it? or wait a few more hours to see how it behaves?

What kind of heat gun can you use to harden paint without using a hardner on clear coat. I have the Master Heat gun but it didn't work to harden paint on low or high setting.

Oh Boy...I thought I was the only idiot out there!!!! I was clearcoating with K2 In a rattle can. My dogs decided to have a scrap and I dropped everything and went out to deal with it. On solving that, I came back and picked up the can that I had not mixed with the catalyst and sprayed my hood. When I discovered it I was pissed. I just used the second can which I had mixed-up with catalyst and sprayed over I wait to see what the results are.
Moral is....do NOT get distracted by anything when you are doing this!!!! Fingers crossed!

I have a similar problem.
I applied a clear coat on top of paint for the shine. I made an extra mixture since I am painting pens( small product)
1st coat came out very well. After 2 days I painted the same clear coat on the pen for the second layer. It is still wet. what can be the reason??

So I mixed my hardener in my polyester primer by fl oz but I was supposed to do it by weight. Not sure how much of a difference it really is, but the primer is soft after 8 hrs. I am out of primer. If I cover this with my single stage urethane with extra hardener, do you think it will have the same effect and "penetrate" as you said?

I just did this with single stage urethane...can I over-catalyze a clear coat instead of the color? Would it have the same effect of the hardener penetrating the base color?

What are cheaper ways to dry a cars paint besides hardner or a UV light or any other drier lights I got touch up paint but it didn't have hardner with it and didn't use it so am probably gonna have to start over and use activator, hardner or catalyst to dry the spots properly now. I might got older activator over from last year when painted my old truck so will have to paint to put base and clear with hardner even though the touch up paint didn't say urethane paint on it but I have some 2k clearcoat urethane from last year too with activator the spots on my truck that didn't dry all the way were small spots. But at the end of the year am painting my truck a different color though after I move to Texas.

Thank you for sharing your information. I learn from your experience. I have never painted a car, yet...

Hi, i made a mistake and painted and clear a hood and bumper without adding catalyst. drove the car a day after and got some rain, now i have spots all over from the rain drops and some small bubbles from the sun and heat. Any way i can fix this without taking everything off and restarting. I used 75/25 paint and reducer and 75/25 clear and reducer. Thank you for your help.

Im having issues with a so called premium 2k clear. I used the exact ratios and followed the data sheet perfectly but even after 4 months the clear is a little soft. I can dig my finger nail into it and it leaves a mark but eve tually flattens by it self. Ive never had this issue before. Im worried i have to take it back to bare metal and start again 😢
