My father died of bowel obstruction in 2016. He was originally diagnosed with Hiatal Hernia. In a period of 20 years, he had 4- Mesh replacement's in his abdominal. The Mesh kept ripping open and his hernia's would come through the mesh opening's. A few day's before his death, the surgeon found that the mesh had detached itself from the abdominal wall and had wrapped around his intestine's. The surgeon had to remove over 2-feet of my father's intestine's and removed the tangled mesh. In less than 24 hours, my father died in my arm's. Before agreeing to ANY Mesh Surgery or Replacement Mesh Surgery, I urge you to do your research. There are many manufacturers who produce this Mesh. Choose wisely and ALWAYS DO YOUR HOMEWORK before agreeing to ANY SURGERY.

Yes, a very good video as I will ask my doctor about the placement of the mesh between the muscle instead of on top of it.

I been to the Cleveland clinic it's a city in a city they are best at what they do and take no chances my wife when she was going in for heart surgery they even checked her teeth as plaque from your teeth can end up in your arteries she never made it as 3/4 of her heart was dead but they really did an excellent job.

Good morning Doctors! This was very informative. I had to have a Hernia operation here in Phoenix, Az. by the VA. Hospital; I would say in Jan. 2019. I opted for the Mesh, reluctantly. The operation was located on the lower left abdomen just above the growing. So far, so good. I haven't had any real issues at all. I'm at the present 71 years old and so far I feel really well for my age. I'm a Plant Base Vegan in which I feel plays an important part about the way I heeled. I'll be 72 on the 24th of November. And as previously stated I feel pretty good. The Hernia itself started off as a spall golfball size lump. Needless to say it scared the living crap out me that morning I first noticed it. I had to go to work that day. After work I went straight to the Emergency room of the VA. I was told what it was. Because of all the bad press about the mesh, I was reluctant. I spent one night in the hospital and was sent home the next morning. I do think if I was still a flesh eater I would have had a lot more problems with it. May Good Bless you both! By the way, I'm from Cleveland, born and raised. I Graduated in June 1971 from Thomas A. Edison High School on 71 Ave. and Hough. I miss my hometown sometime; and I'm about to move back real soon. As I said, "Great article." May God Bless! Peace!

This was very helpful. But I wish you could have asked him, just by feeling the hernis can you determine the size. And also he didn't state how long the procedure takes. But great information. Thanks.

There’s another hernia that you haven’t mention is one that I have is parastoma hernia, in which I have, I have a grapefruit size hernia which I get nauseous all the time, I can walk to long which I use to walk 10 km with no problem now I have a hard time to do 4 km . I get back ache and feel like I’m carrying weight, I get tired fast and on top of that I have also a prolapse. So I’m not too happy with my life right now
