I'm old enough to remember the U.S. protecting its car industry from the Germans, then the Japanese, the Koreans, now the Chinese. I guess lobbying is cheaper than research and development.

By 2030, I would not be surprised if China reaches 99% EV adoption, while the USA and Canada would remain stuck at around 20% EV adoption.

Being Canadian, I am shocked by how fast we have begun to pedal backwards on everything. The country is getting harder to live in .. not easier or better.

Don't forget about the Dealerships. They don't want this competition here. All the largest homes in my city are owned by Dealership families. They are very powerful and influential.

We did this with the old smoggy cars of the 1970s and 80s. We protected US automakers against Japan's competition. The result was that the companies made tons of money, giving it to the stockholders and managers. Then, they went bankrupt. The government had to build them out, but only Ford did not go belly-up. This will happen again, but China will capture the rest of the world. Man up! Compete with better product and better prices.

They jumped on the EV trend at first 'cause it was the cool thing to do. But once they saw China was dominating the scene and they couldn't keep up, suddenly being cool wasn't the goal anymore.

I'm lucky I have my Shanghai built model 3 (better quality over Freemont) on order and on its way in a week or 2 but I was looking forward to having BYD and other competition to arrive but once again the poor government shuts it down for us.

I say give the domestic manufacturers a deadline to produce affordable EV’s and if they don’t, lift the tariffs. Otherwise, consumers are getting screwed over for nothing.

My parents immigrated to Canada for jobs/ opportunity and my dad did get a job a Ford, making cars. They ditched him1 year before retirement when they closed the plant, despite all the government subsidies, they explioited the government too and then took off. Funny all that work he did just empowerd them to screw us over and continually do so today as they have government protection for some reason, after closing our plants and moving for cheaper this is how we reward them? common... just terrible
