You just have to be gifted, intelligent, and customer friendly. Oh, did I fail to mention that it requires an undying love of the guitar in all its forms.

I did exactly this. I've spent the last year training at a luthier course and have just finished my first guitar. Best thing I ever did.

I live in italy, if other luthiers here hear you say "you can learn by watching youtube videos" they are going to call the police. Anyway i think it absolutely possobile, and i learned a lot from your videos as well! And will keep watching!

This is a terrific short video Chris. Having said that, I don't use or teach any of the stuff I learned at Roberto-Venn.

Networking with industry professionals is the most important part of the game, knowledge, connections, growth... a course will get you some skills, experience and networking takes alot of time, there are no huge shortcuts

The lick you said was your favorite reminds me of a lick he plays in the middle solo on "Go, Love" which is my favorite lick in that song.

I mean you still gotta think about the safety of the customer. You wouldn't want some crazy neck design that will snap easily and come smacking the customer in the face. You don't want sharp fret ends cutting up the customers fingers. Theres still some safety that goes into it but it's common sense engineering.

I worked for John Caruthers in California for a short period, mostly finishing guitars. He worked at Fender most notebly and he showed me how to do setups and fret dressing as well. Does that make me a luthier?😮

I just want to know how to find people that want to pay $5000 for a custom made guitar and be able to sell 10-20 a year. I’m confident I can figure out better processes along the way, but right now I don’t know if I can make half of what I do as an engineer. I’d really appreciate it if you made a video on how you got your first customers and built your business.

In Germany, until 2012 you needed a masters Training and License which was tested by the Chamber of Woodworking.

But what if you have absolutely no supplies and no shop to work in? I always wanted to learn more about this but I’m truly clueless.
