LYRICS
Carolina in My Mind by James Taylor

In my mind I’m gone to Carolina
Can’t you see the sunshine
Can’t you just feel the moonshine
Ain’t it like a friend of mine
To hit me from behind
Oh, I’m gone to Carolina in my mind

Karin she’s a silver sun
You best walk her way and watch it shine
Watch her watch the morning come
A silver tear appearing now
Well, I’m cryin’ ain’t I
I’m gone to Carolina in my mind

Ain’t no doubt in no one’s mind
That love’s the finest thing around
Whisper something soft and kind
Hey, baby, the sky’s on fire
I’m dyin’ ain’t I
Ain’t I gone to Carolina in my mind

In my mind I’m gone to Carolina
Can’t you see the sunshine
Can’t you just feel the moonshine
Ain’t it like a friend of mine
To hit me from behind
Till I’m gone to Carolina in my mind

Dark and silent late last night
Think I might have heard the highway calling
Geese in flight and dogs that bite
And signs that might be omens
Say I’m goin’, I’m goin’
Gone to Carolina in my mind

It’s with a holy host of others
Standing round me
Still I’m on the dark side of the moon
And it looks like it goes on like this forever
You must forgive me
If I’m gone to Carolina in my mind

In my mind I’m long gone to Carolina
Can’t you see the sunshine
I said can’t you just feel the moonshine
Ain’t it just like a friend of mine
To hit me from behind
Oh, I’m gone to Carolina in my mind
Oh, I’m gone to Carolina in my mind
So I’m already gone
I’m gone
Say nice things about me
I’m gone
You’ll have to carry on without me
I’m gone
Oh, I’m gone to Carolina in my mind
I’m gone
Yes, I’m gone to Carolina in my mind

You still be the best one! I follow you about 52 years ago, since I was lived in Califórnia. Now I lived in Portugal. Everything good to you! 🙏

Something sacred about this song! The best of memories call us back - don’t we always want to relive them somehow? James, this song takes me back!

All he ever needs is a guitar, and people will listen. He is one of the greatest performers of all time.

Love this, JT! I turned 10 in ‘72… About the time I started loving American music. “Carolina on my mind” and “fire and rain” were at the top of my list back then, and still today!
All my best 😊

Saw him live during a free concert on the beach in Ft Lauderdale many years ago. He stepped out on stage set up on the sand. He started playing his guitar and began singing. I've never seen so many people just straight up mellow out and chill . Of course much applause and people yelling, " I love you James ", in between his songs. He played and sang over a hour. It was a great time and day !! Thank you JT for putting on one awesome concert for free, for anyone who was lucky enough to be there. ❤

This song always makes me think of and miss Luanne, Uncle Charlie, Aunt Louise, and someone very special who I loved very much and still do, even though I didn't then have the emotional maturity to show it properly. I'll always love James Taylor's music, his distinctive voice, and the precious bittersweet memories they invoke in me.

Oh, I will ALWAYS regret missing the opportunity to attend his concert at the last minute.
He's like an old soul.
Beautiful voice, that never changes.

This song is one of my favorites because I am from North Carolina and now live in Florida since 1996. My extended families still live there.
