From the 1870s to the 1910s New Yorkers built lavish mansions all over the the city, often (but not always) trying to outdo one another. Today, most of these surviving homes are located on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Take a journey with us as we take a peek at some of our favorites.

Which one is _my_ favourite? That's a _really_ difficult decision. They are _ALL_ stunningly beautiful and - looking at them through 21st C. glasses - are amazing in terms of the craftsmanship.
I'd love to live in any one of them...

My favorite mansion is 1009 5th Avenue - the Duke-Semans mansion. Am a Duke cousin, and have stayed there several times...

Mine is Hildale, the beautiful mansion of Robert Lincoln, Abe’s son, in Vermont. Large, yet not vast. Gorgeous 350 degree views. Very homey.
