The Replicators are one of the best Sci-Fi villains.

There was a creepypasta I listen to a long time ago. Forgot what it's called I think it was "radio silence "short story it was about someone looking for aliens sending Radio signals and stuff out to space ( think he worked for the government) but at the end he got a clear message sent back to him and it said " Be quiet they will hear you".

I love when Stargate gets brought up! The way they meshed religion, aliens and faith together is beautiful.

When it comes to the Fermi Paradox I think two points are very important to consider. One, we can only perceive so many things right now. It's a big mistake to think we can perceive EVERYTHING that is in existence. How long did microscopic lifeforms exist before humans detected them? There could be alien lifeforms roaming around Earth right now and we might not even know it. Two, a lot of things we do see out there, especially things that puzzle us, might actually be evidence of aliens but we just don't have the knowledge needed to realize what we're looking at. You ever see a cat or dog looking at a tv that is showing birds or something? That cat or dog can't tell that they are looking at a video of a bird and not an actual bird. We humans could be like that. We might look at a distant star that is doing weird things, and we might not realize that is not a distant star that we are looking at. Too many people assume we are as advanced as a lifeform gets and that we can see all there is to see. We might be a dog level creature in a universe filled with human level aliens.

I find it unlikely that an alien civilization would never send out signals by accident or otherwise. I also tend to think more peaceful species would be more likely to survive long enough to develop super advanced tech than aggressive ones who have a larger chance of killing themselves off.

That all being said, we can make no assumptions on what aliens would be like and therefore makes sense to be a bit more cautious when dealing with other possible alien species.

The universe is so vast and old that there could be millions of intelligent civilizations alive right now that ask the same question.

I like the dark forest analogy. I might add there would be a reason to intentionally let other hunters know where you are. That's if you're strong enough not to care and you're luring them in.

A better question would be, what if Uber intelligent life didn't figure out faster than light travel, just dark matter engines and light speed travel? But the kicker is they figured out how to slow or even stop the aging process giving them all the time needed to travel to distant stars and galaxies?

It can't really be considered a true paradox when we know so little information. I think many commoners believe we are listening to the all sections of the galaxy at all times, something absolutely impossible at current tech levels. We can only listennto a tiny percent of a tiny percent at any time. So calling this a paradox is almost like wondering why a nearly deaf old man doesn’t answer his door.

The dark forest theory (hadn't heard of it before) is exactly what I've always said to people when they bring up the Fermi paradox. If they're 10 of thousands of years more advanced, let alone millions of years... seriously, why would we assume we have the technology required to know they're there if they don't want us to know they are?

Damn dude, going to miss your channel 😢

Marvel had the scariest answer to the Fermi paradox: Galactus eater of worlds.

I am firmly in the camp that intelligent life is out there. That being said, I don't think you are appreciating the VAST distances involved. We have only been broadcasting for just over 100 years, so a sphere, centered on Earth out roughly 100 light years is the detectable range for a remote sensing of our existence. That is such a small fraction of the total size of just the Milky Way, that for all intents and purposes, it is irrelevant.
Another thing to consider, we project our cultural and historical perspectives on an alien race for evaluating how they would respond to us. While I agree that we can keep them in mind as a baseline, we have no way of knowing the value system of any truly alien culture, and as such just assuming it will be aggressive because we have a history of being so, is setting us up for failure. One thing that should be considered is that, along with scientific progress happening here, we have seen a maturing of our accepted societal philosophies, moving us toward a more cooperative mindset, and away from the conqueror/colonizer perspective. There is no reason not to expect that possibility with an incredibly advanced alien culture as well, I would not argue that it should be assumed, but I would say it is at least as likely as any other perspective.
So, I choose to be optimistic for the time that humanity and an alien culture meet for the first time...assuming we make it past the great filter in our future.

Wouldn't worry about the dark forest theory, our planet has been leaking light-wave signs of life for billions of years. The most depressing solution to me would be that we were put here in order to allow other entities appreciate what they have, like a tv show sim.

The universe is young, stable 3rd generation stars, stabilized mass black holes, the universe is only recently stabilized. It seems more likely that we may both be alone in the universe and *early* in the universe. Perhaps we have the chance to be the elder intergalactic species, which means... We have a lot of growing up to do.

When you see...something you can't explain an ordinary night, don't tell anyone.
Been 28+ years but when the 5 of us find ourselves together, the event, on a normal weeknight post fishing always will come up.
It made the news, Southern Indiana.
I'm not out like I used to be at all hours in the country so I haven't seen anything before, nor since but it was absolutely mindbending when it happened, we were shook.
I've seen meteors, comets, watch meteor showers, seen a few fireballs, normal cool stuff, the orange orbs were unique and left our minds smoking craters.
Doubters, laugh it up, hopefully it happens to you soon.

Life probably does exist somewhere out there & has evolved at a more primitive state or at best, similar to ourselves.
However, these life forms may be billions of light years away. We can't here them; they can't hear us. End of.

The Fermi Paradox is quite simple. Complex life is rare. Maybe dang near impossible. Many of us have long speculated that given the big bang came from a singularity that we are trapped in a super massive black hole. Given that timeline, and the need for water to percolate through volcanic glass to create complex life along with a magnetosphere to protect said life, we just may be the only consciousness this universe has in play. 🤷

I loved SG-1. They brought up stuff we hadnt yet really questioned. Pyramids to an extent. Wormholes. Paracitic species. Its been a long time since i watched it. But so much of it seemed possible.

I think they were here before we were, and they live underneath the ocean. Or at the bottom.

Where are the aliens? Simple. The aliens are outside, outside of this matrix, outside of this prison.
