Howdy Guys! Welcome back to another Cool Hand Garage! Today we're replacing the collapsed lifter on the 428 FE for the Highboy. Slowly getting it ready for installation into the truck. Still need to get an adapter for my ZF-5 transmission, link below. That'll likely be a future video whenever that happens. Anyhow, let's get started!

Ya, you are going to need a new cam & lifters. FEs dont have a oiling issue unless you run high rpm for long periods of time. And its easily fixed by buying a plug to put in the oil galley in the head under the rocker stand. Drill a .090 size hole in a 5/16 plug & that is plenty of oil up top. U cut it to a 1/3 of what it originally dus. It directs the rest of the oil through the lower end. Otherwise the only issue is the oil dousnt drain back to the pan as fast as it gets pumped up to the rockers. Restricting it they are good to go. Ur guna need a new cam.

The bottom of that lifter is concaved. He has to replace ALL of the lifters AND the camshaft. The cam that was pushing the worned lifter may also be worned.

The 406 was a better FE than the 428. Same block but different crankshaft. 406 internal balanced. 428 External.

I've got a lifter ticking after the engine gets real hot. Maybe i'll try replacing it with that tool.

that cam lobe is wiped you need a new cam
