Thanks, I read somewhere that you can repalce your lifters when doing head gaskets, but if it's going to cause wear, then I should do the camshaft too. I think I'm going to avoid the rabbit hole on this budget build.

Does the lifter oil hole point up or down in the trays?

Quick question but my question is in reference to a much smaller engine 196cc. Still the same basic concept i would imagine just smaller parts. So if you could imagine remving the side cover off of a 196cc honda clone engine and you see the cam sitting in it's place on the bottom right and you pull the cam out and then immediately see the 2 lifters on the right side. If those lifters cannot be pressed all the way closed so that they are flat against the engine block and create a seal would that prevent the engine from starting and cause a backfiring popping sound while you're trying to start the engine ? I ask because i recently purchased a pair of Billet Lifters to replace the stock lifters but just realized when i put them in that i can't get them to go all the way into the bore hole that they sit in. They stick out by like almost an inch. I'm thinking they may be the wrong size and therefore not fully closing the intake and exhaust valves and that's why it won't start now and backfires while trying to start ? Also since i installed them the timing keeps coming misaligned just from trying to start it. The 2 dots one on cam and one on crank gear that connects to cam i line them up perfectly and go to start it and then check on them afterwards and they're no longer lined up again. Gotta be the lifters causing all this right ? I should take out those billet lifters and put back the stock lifters and hope that works ?

I need 8 tappets for a 30 yo diesel engine (Westerbeke) but none can be found. Are there businesses that could/would make them for a relatively reasonable cost?

That part about needing to replace lifters at the same time as the camshaft 👍🏼

Is the replacement of HLA/bucket-type lifters on an OHC engine required when installing a new camshaft as well, or does this only apply to pushrod engines?

I have lm7 that I'm rebuilding. I soaked the lifters in mineral spirits and when I open them up all I have is a clip and a plunger. It's like it's all stuck in there, even tried a using pliers to softly wiggle on it. Nothing. I have 5 like that and thought I would do research. Any recommendations?

I removed my MDS lifter and replaced them with non-mds lifters in my 2011 Ram 1500 5.7 hemi. Do I need to adjust the timing after that swap? I've tried to start the truck, but it won't stay running. THANKS in advance for any opinions.
