He didn't throw it away to insult her. The mission changed and something new was needed. It showed her how much he appreciated her and valued her genius.

I like that he took the time to clarify that it wasn't a slight or an insult. A small detail but speaks to his character.

Its also the simple gesture of setting it down on the trash instesd of throwing it. Respects the work but is just sayin its obsolete now.

As for the space program at this point, these pioneers had no one book to guide them.
No script to follow.
Admiral 'Bull' Halsey put it best then he first assembled his staff and fleet officers in the Pacific Theater and told them to . . .
"'. . . throw away the book. The men who
wrote it never faced what we are up against."

Everyone should see this movie about being exceptional at a time when black people were treated so horrible. This lady was absolutely brilliant. Everyone needs to be treated with respect and opportunity

I like how he clarified

Like “I didn’t mean to offend, it’s just that things changed fast, faster than you could get me your calculations”

This scene proves her point later, that she needs to be there when it changes or everything will always be obsolete.

He was gentle and considerate, a good boss who won’t lead you on and waste your time on useless work but who’ll have your back.

I ended up changing my major from mechanical engineering to underwater basket weaving in college because the math was insane - any woman working in stem has my complete and utter respect for

Catherine, you are so exceptional. I have never seen such humility even when people walk over you. Your intelligence speak volumes. There is a part in this movie where the man who went in/to space said he only trust you. I was filled with joy when that happened. You go girl.

The hardest thing i had to get used to when i started in analytics was producing a report and then hearing yea well / do it over and change everything... lol - took me awhile to learn and not take it personal. But the good news - what you did was not wrong per se - it was right given the facts at the time, facts change - it is not "right" anymore - but it isn't wrong

Great women in their time and this was an awesome movie. There are so many things black people have done. But they don't teach it in schools. But times changing it's all coming out. Before these great ladies black people didn't have money for a patent so they couldn't have their own trademark their ideas was stolen from them by their masters and some are still get robbed. Just give credit where credit is do no matter who you are or what color just do the right thing. But the Most High will repay.

They just treated the black women like workhorses.
He would have NEVER dared put that file in the trash had it been a white woman.
It may have been obsolete, but it was still a record of Catherine's contribution & genius.
