Transfer files from PC to Steam Deck with FTP / FileZilla

Another option to get files from your PC to #SteamDeck and vice-versa. You can use FileZilla or your favourite FTP program for this. I choose FileZilla as it's properly cross-platform and open source.

Steps:
Run "passwd" to set the password.
Then "sudo systemctl enable sshd" and "sudo systemctl start sshd".
Get the Steam Deck IP from the Networking icon in the Details tab.
Open FileZilla on your PC and enter the details in.

For Linux: you know where to go.

As someone who has never used Linux before, and currently waiting on the arrival of my Deck this is amazing! I was wondering how I could easily move all of my emulation ROMs/ISOs/BIOS' over with ease, and this has made my future worry so much less! Thank you so much!

good little tutorial, the best option I've seen and used for file transfer is sshfs

Just for those who are scared yes you can just plug a thumb drive into your Windows PC and the Deck to transfer files.

I was transferring a 19GB folder from my pc to my phone so I could put it on my steam deck. The file was taking 6+ hours 2 days in a row! It was crazy and I needed my phone back. I tried this method and all 16, 125 files transferred over on about 30 minutes!

If you're on a windows machine and would like DARK MODE, WinSCP is a similar FTP client, open source, and starts in blessed dark mode. Setup screen is nearly identical to Filezilla so you can follow this video and still connect.

Thank you so much for this guide, I stopped using my Steam Deck for a few months but have got into retro emulation and picked it back up, I was using Winpinator before but went back on my deck and whatever i did it just wouldn't work for me, followed this guide and worked first time. Panic over!

I'm even chained through a powered USB Hub with Cat6e Gbit networking.
Works flawless.
Just transferred 512GB from Desktop to Steam Deck in under 4 hours vs 2 days.
WiFi also works great and I dropped a movie to the Deck in minutes.
