Folks this is why I have been a loyal subscriber for the past 3 years. I've save at least 10 -12k in plumbing cost doing my own work.

I may have to listen to the video a few times but so far absolutely no issues with my own work.

This is the best DIY plumbing channel on any social media.

Usually the people who hate them are the ones who didn't install them correctly and wants to blame the product

Well I am slowing changing over to PEX... as my old copper pipes develop leaks from corrosion (sulfury well water).... The iron pipes are fine. I have used Polybutylene pipes decades ago, only had issues with the smaller fittings, never with the large tubing... It was nice because my plumbing ran up a nothern corner inside the house, and the iron pipes would freeze and copper or PVC of course would burst/crack.

Depth gauges are so useful. Especially with mapress, you can't go wrong because the mark is literally half in the fitting, half out. They also do that for warranty purposes, they'd know if someone was just being lazy and drew the line on after installation - which then caused a 12 story apartment to flood 😅

correct, its also true that the distance between the sharkbite logo's on the pipe itself is actually a gauge for the correct depth of insertion of the pipe into a fitting.

if you plan ahead and cut the pipe on these markings on the pipe then you will not have to mark the pipe at all as its already done for you.
The exception being in a space where the length of of the pipe run is fixed and cannot be altered, you would then benefit from marking the pipe manually yourself.

there is a tool that takes the sharp edge off the end of the pex so the pex goes in easier. Full insertion is needed -true - mark the pipe is a good idea

Pro Tip. Instead of carrying around a extra tool just use the first digit on your finger, it works every time!

That pex has the insertion depth printed with little arrows

The most common mistake is using sharkbites for permanent plumbing

Another common mistake is leaving the tubing insert sleeves inside of the fitting when using copper or PVC. The sleeves are not needed for those products.

Most professional tip:
Dont use sharkbite

Um, yeah, not a worry unless you cut very crooked at which point that line is meaningless

I understand what you're saying. And yes, you can put an index mark. That's only for propress, bro. I've never heard anybody using an index for a shark bite. And for the record, I'll be in a plumber 28 years, use a shark bite only for emergencies and I know. I'll get a lot of hate for that. But that's only because they don't get paid to be a plumber like I do might drop.

Another common mistake is buying sharkbite and thinking it'll fix your problem for a long period of time
