Social media "experts" and jokers pitting women and men against each other is definitely a big part of this too. And so this goes for both genders. Ego, misunderstanding, unrealistic expectations (or the opposite, attracting abusers or players because of low self esteem), and selfishness all contribute too. Nobody wants to serve one ANOTHER anymore.
