They literally have names for each other and have classes to teach the young. They are the humans of the ocean and we are just cute lil animals to them

Exactly why we should not keep any of them locked up in a little bathtub. They are practically as intelligent as us. The tanks seem big but to put things in perspective, it’s like being trapped in your own bedroom as a human 24/7. There’s a whole wide world out there, but you’re spending every minute of your entire life in a cramped little bedroom. One orca in particular named Hugo rammed his head into the side of the tank and deliberately ended his own life, captivity was that miserable for the intelligent creature. We should not be locking them up in bathtubs for everyone’s amusement.

And the matriarch is the one that teaches them how to hunt, where the best fishing spots are etc. and these pods stay together for life, they are family. They only mingle with other orcas when mating

i often wonder if whales are more intelligent than humans. we just dont know cause they got flippers and dont speak english.

Just wanted to point out that they actually can communicate with their own species despite having different languages and cultural traditions similar to humans, but they transcend even human capacity in that they are not only capable of collaborating with and very minimally understanding outside of their own species, they have the ability with actual language to communicate with other types of marine mammals outside of their own species. Ofc it’s not a shock, the orca was the apex species on the planet for millions of years prior to the evolution and humans developing and they have an evolutionary head start as well by millions of years in the development of the spindal neurons in the brain essentially unique and vital to all highly intelligent, emotional species. Now ofc don’t get me wrong, obviously humans are more developed and predominant as a species and obviously we are capable of domesticating, collaborating with and on a surface level communicating with other intelligent species whether through body language or trust and affection and food but unlike the orca we have never been able to decipher the language of another mammal advanced enough to even communicate via language and we have more then enough recordings of these languages from various different species of marine mammals and even have sophisticated ai and other software and computers capable of aiding us in deciphering, and adequately recreating and yet we still can’t do that, while orcas can.
