A hair dryer will speed up the drying process drastically, nothing worse than having to return to a small job for something like matching colors IMO and there are no draw backs if the original morter is dry also.

Im in england trying to make up a pure lught grey mortar to for some light grey facing bricks.

My sand choices are orange and pale yellow, with grey cement the orange makes a grey with beige brown tint to it and the yellow has a tiny of mustard.

Would i be best to try adding hydrated lime to lighten it up, or an amount of white cement with the grey?

Ive tried 4:1 and 5:1.
Smoothing off the samples makes it lighter again.
