We’ve changed how intakes are designed.

The ECM (Engine Control Module) in the 2020-23 Duramax monitors air mass and pressure so closely that any deviation from stock results in a check engine light. I have a Banks air filter. I just cleaned and re-oiled my filter yesterday. What a pain! I am going to replace the Banks with an S&B. Easy in & easy out.

How about fixing the intakes on the fifth gen rams so they stop throwing egr codes. While you are at it maybe you could finish the design and have it actually connect to the air scoop so it uses the factory ram air setup like s&b does?

My 2012 Cummins has the Banks monster ram, 3.5" intercooler pipes and the Ram air cold air kit and it has all worked great for me. No lights on and much better throttle response. My truck has 35x12.5x22 and I'm getting 19 mpg around town. Banks stuff is awesome.

I like seeing them find ways around choke points. Back in 1998, I learned what a MAF was in an article about how to get 450 horsepower form a Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo.

The stock MAF was in front of a splitter, taking the flow from one air filter to two snails.


When installing really big snails, people back then had to use the Jim Wolf Technology Twin Pop, which was two air filters, and the MAF in one of them. Then the ECU was reprogrammed as the MAF was basically measuring half of what went on.

Later modification on MAF engines involved using a large MAF with a wider range. People would often adapt the Delphi MAF found in the C5 ZO6 and reprogram ECUs to use it.

JWT did a lot of interesting things with Mass Air engines. The Datsun 280ZX was made before the hot wire MAF. It had a weather vane that was a huge choke point. They adapted the computer and hot wire MAF from the early 300ZX Turbo, in order to improve the Datsun 280ZX Turbo.

I appreciate Banks educating me on my previous intake. I've always done intakes on my trucks and never paid attention to the reduced diameters by the MAF sensor. Now I just need to see if they make a CAI for my 4Runner. 😁
