The Secret Weapon Against All Minefields

In minefield clearance, the M1150 Assault Breacher Vehicle (ABV) stands out, featuring a Mine Clearing Line Charge (MICLIC). This rope-like device, containing 1,760 pounds of explosives, is launched forward to create a cleared path, aiding troops in navigating safely through hazardous terrains. Since 2009, the ABV has played a crucial role in military operations, showcasing advancements in combat engineering capabilities.

Singapore introduces the Trailblazer Counter-Mine Vehicle, designed for civilian safety. Using a mine flail system, it employs chains with heavy hammers to strike the ground, efficiently detonating mines. Featuring an enormous blast shield for the driver's safety, metal spikes pneumatically mark a visible demarcation of a safe passage. While enhancing efficiency compared to manual demining, the quest for civilian-friendly solutions continues.

In the civilian sector, Hydrema emerges as a powerful demining tool resembling a truck. Using a chain and hammer system, it rotates at impressive speeds to disarm landmines, prioritizing safety and efficiency. However, the stark reality persists — civilians, sometimes facing urgent situations, take matters into their own hands. The story of a Ukrainian farmer retrofitting his tractor into a remote-controlled landmine clearing machine underscores the need for swift and accessible demining solutions. As innovations like these unfold, the importance of developing technologies that ensure both efficiency and safety becomes paramount in the pursuit of a mine-free future.

"UR-77 Meteorit" Soviet de-mining vehicle made IN 1978 which fires two mine-clearing line charges, over 500 was produced, so this "secret weapon" and technoly has been widely known and used for over what 50-ish years now?

This concept using rapidly rotating chains is not new. It was used in WW2. This channel is using click bait.

That second mine clearing machine is almost identical to a British machine developed for D-Day. It was one of Hobart’s funniest, as they were called.

1. It's not secret.
2. It doesn't work against ALL minefields.

The Brits invented the principle of flail de-mining machines already 80 years ago during WW2. I have no idea why such machines are not in heavier use. The US's mine clearing line charges are also nothing new. The Soviets had them already beginning of the 1980s.

Highly dependent on Lay of ground, for a smooth ground maybe ok but in bushes and undulating terrain manual breaching maybe resorted to.

Singapore Combat Engineer here. The trucks came too late. During my service we manually prod the ground for mines. Time consuming and of course dangerous. I'm jealous of the soldiers after this truck came out.

2:14 the Singaporeans didn’t invent that mine clearing method. You can see such a vehicles doing exactly the same thing used by the british in the 40s.

I still prefer the python that the British CRE uses. There are lots of similar systems, all copies of the original British system!

Gonna give the credit to the Sgt. in Iraq who invented this? Saw it in the news way back during the first Gulf war... Just a guy with an idea.

South Africa had a system called the Ploffadder, a name play on the Puffadder, a dangerous snake, this was an excellent mine clearing weapon

Not a new invention, originally developed in 1942 called the 'conger'
The flail, not new either, 1944, Royal Engineers and Royal Tank Regiment s using Sherman tanks. Rockets or a shaking container of chalk marked the safe route, see 79th armoured division for innovative machines in ww2.

Those rotative chains destroy the soil that will not be useful for farming later.

Every time there is a conflict, this problem re-emerges. These things are not solutions, the solution is to prohibit mines by treaty, and make laying minefields a war crime.

Unless you have no support for them and then the locals have to use farming tractors for demining...😂😂
