Thank you so much for such clear instructions - walked through your tutorial and got my Synology set up in no time - really appreciate you taking the time to do this video.

Thanks for another great video.
One thing to note, is that it's not necessary to have ports 80/443 open in your router, for LE auto renewal if you use Synology DDNS, AFAIK. At least I've haven't had any open for years, and it's working just fine :)

Thank you so much. This is exactly what I was looking for. Maybe include this in your best practices for nas setup blog or video 👍

I would like a simple … like me … walk thru . Would this process be the same on a Buffalo NAS . I would need ssl only on the NAS .

I successfully added my domain in local pihole dns, when I ping my domain in my computer prompte (console) it gives me the ip of my server, but trying to access to domain:5001 is returning inaccessible website. The thing is, both my server and pihole have the same ip, only the port change but I don't think this is the issue here.
I only have 1 interface
I don't have a firewall enabled on synology
Do you think my router is blocking a redirection ?

Enjoy the videos and hope the channel grows. I'm glad you went into more detail past actually just setting up the SSL certificate. One question - is there an easy way to keep track of when your Lets Encrypt certs are expiring? I don't typically keep port 80/443 forwarded, and only open them up when I need to access services when I'm out of the house. Other than getting the annoying security page one day, can you be pro-activate in any methodical way?

appreciate all your help. i did the firewall settings, i created a certificate and then tried the domain name but it did not work. but i then tried the quickconnect name and it opened with https. so I now have a secure access. i have not seen anyone use quickconnect with https. I hope its just as good as the domain name as you showed.

Thanks for making this because I have to update an SSL on a NAS machine. I know how to do this on a remote desktop connection but have no clue how to do this on a NAS. Does what you're doing in this video presume that you have a console connection via Remote Desktop?

Dumb question…do I need to enable HTTPS if I don’t plan to access the NAS externally? So all ports closed

Hi Sir, I love your tutorials but I have been having a hell of a time getting my Synology to work following your instructions and I think I now know why. I live on a plot of land with my dad in his house in the front and mine in the back. He has the internet coming into his house because it is closest to the street and to keep from running cable I just ran a wireless bridged network through radios and dishes to my house in the back. The internet provider is plugged from their modem into his router and my transmitter is plugged into his router and through a dish I receive a signal into my receiver which is then plugged into my router. I have been trying to get a Lets encrypt certificate following your instructions, but that never works. Nothing seems to work. I now realize that it doesn't matter how I set up port forwarding and perhaps reverse proxy on my router, if my dad's router isn't set up to port forward or reverse proxy as well. Do you have any advice as to how I should set up this network? Should I just set up his router for port forwarding and reverse proxy serving and leave mine with those settings off?

Thank you

I like the video. I am under impression that I did everything as you described with the option of DNS server entry. However, I am not able to connect to my NAS using web browser and domain name from within my LAN. I can do it by IP address. When using command prompt nslookup and the name, the response is corrert IP address. Pings response correctly, byt not web browser. Do you have any advise?

Unfortunately, this is not a complete tutorial as you start with the assumption that user already has a domain name. Yes, we can jump from one link to another link, but it would be so much easier to get everything in one place, from start to finish.

hi I been loving your videos you do a great job explaining everything. I have a question, I have recently set up a synology NAS with a DDNS with signed certificates but when I remove my MacBook from the network at my work (where the NAS is setup) it disconnects from the internet and network too, until I connect to the network again then it starts after refreshing the certificates. is there a way to put the certificate on the NAS itself or change this to a desktop PC from work? if you could answer this it would be very appreciated. thanks in advance.

Hi Frank, I fixed the double nat problem you alerted me to following your suggestion (below). Now I am following your instructions on making an SSL certificate using Let's encrypt for a new exposed service using the reverse proxy as you instructed in your videos. I have port forward 80 and 443 opened on my Asus router. I also have my own domain name registered on cloudflare. Every time I try to get a certificate, though, I get "Please check if your IP address, reverse proxy rules, and firewall settings are properly configured and try again". So I temporarily disabled the firewall and tried again and got the same error. I re-enabled it. I used port checker to check to see if port 80 and 443 are open, and both list as open. I still get the same error message. I don't understand what I am doing wrong. Could you please advise? Thank you
