Hawaii's Maui island is in ruins after a fast-moving inferno spiralled out of control, incinerating most of the historic tourist town of Lahaina. Jackson Proskow reports on the aftermath of the deadly disaster and Dana Griffin looks at the island's evacuation efforts.

The federal government has unveiled its long-awaited plan to bring Canada's electricity grid to net-zero by 2035. Touria Izri looks at the praise from environmental groups, why there will still be allowances to use natural gas and the concerns over how much the changes will cost.

Alberta and Saskatchewan, two of Canada's largest oil-producing provinces, are slamming the federal government's proposed net-zero energy plan. Heather Yourex-West explains the backlash and the hints the dispute could become a battle for jurisdiction.

With more than 22 million homes needed by 2030 to address Canada's housing crisis, the federal government is promoting the First Home Savings Account (FHSA) as a tool to help people who want to buy their first home. Mackenzie Gray explains how the FHSA works and why critics are skeptical of how helpful it will be.

Plus, Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen and the rest of the Artemis II crew are gearing up for their mission to the moon in November 2024. Farah Nasser speaks with Hansen about his initial impressions of the space capsule, the challenges of preparing to go to the moon, how the mission could be a launchpad to travel to Mars and his thoughts on UFOs.

Oh dear Lord! Those poor people have lost everything, and so many have lost their lives. I remember walking through that beautiful town many years ago...and now it's gone!

germany started 20 years ago with wind and solar...The hydro in germany was so high to pay for all that. The bottom line was...it was never enough and still had to use gas and coal when france went nuclear which worked the best. The repair cost to run the windmills were more then they produced. There is 1 windmill in downtown toronto...half the time its not running cause its broken. Ontario produces so much hydro that canada pays the US to take it. Technacally the hydro in Ontario should be free cause the Niagara falls produces so much.

The current cost estimate is based on current raw material prices, when the demand on things like copper goes up so will the price and supply will drop unless more mines are built.

Sounds more like volcanic eruption to me rather than wildfires in Maui.

5:04 destroyed because everything is made of wood. If everything was made of concrete, the fire wouldn't get more fuel compared to wooden structures.

I think the minimum wage worker is again going to pay for an increase in electricity, so that we can accommodate wealthier people who can afford electric vehicles. We will mine for the necessary minerals, tailings ponds and all, for a "greener " future.
