Thankful for this video! I was just recently diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. I was planning on getting some nutritional yeast to help make my diet changes more delicious and appealing. I was shocked when you mentioned UC. I’m so glad I decided to watch this. I’m so afraid of having another painful attack. Thank you so much for the warning. I can’t even risk it. Thank you

Years ago an iridologist said my eyes seemed to have brown coloring and asked me if
I was taking brewer's yeast. I said ''yes, quite a lot", and she said to stop eating it..
Can anyone tell me if this nutritional yeast might have this same undesirable effect?

Something that wasnt mentioned at all here is the fact that a lot of brands of nutritional yeast contain folic acid, the man made version of folate. If youre gonna use this stuff buy one containing folate and not folic acid as prolonged use or high use of folic acid can mask a b12 deficiency, increase the likelihood of cancer etc.. Eat natural foods to stay healthy and not man made or synthetic alternatives :)

Hi Dr. Claper. I love listening to your wisdom. Thanks for talking about Nutritional Yeast. I never knew exactly where it came from. Now I do :-)... also never knew it had any real food value, again, now I know. Something else, I didn't know is why I double over in pain when I eat it. I'm old, and have done wo it all this time, so can do without it, but just wanted to enjoy it like some other people do. I was diagnosed with spastic colon syndrome in my 20s, so maybe it is a reaction to that. I have had good luck with the whole plant way of eating so, I'm happy with that. Thanks for all you do.

Go for the unfortified nutritional yeast and skip the synthetic vitamin b-12 that's in plain nutritional yeast and take a nutritional vitamin b-12 supplement. Much healthier.

Interesting yeast fact:
If enough sugar (glucose) is present in solution, yeast (S. cerevisiae) will use fermentation in the presence of oxygen (as opposed to respiration). It is due to the Crabtree effect, which is basically the other side of the Pasteur effect. Cool stuff.

since cheese is also made using bacteria, i wonder if that's where the "cheesy" flavor comes from?

Does nutritional yeast increase the chance of developing crohn's disease, or is it only a problem for people who already have it? My mother has crohn's and I wonder if that means I should avoid nutritional yeast.

I love it, but it doesn't like me. One tablespoon a day. Anymore, I have an allergic reaction. I wonder if I'm the only person with such issue. Best wishes and thank you.

I have to disagree with Dr Klaper here. I used to eat a lot of Nutritional Yeast and eventually this current year I did a lot of research and frankly we don't know what we're eating. Sure, it's high in protein and contain all the 9 essential amino acides, but we really don't know on what it's been grown and as for everything when somebody tries to make money growing something artificial they cut corners. Some grow on saw dust. What's in saw dust? What kind of chemical was in that wood before it became saw dust? Glue, paint? Formaldehyde? At the end of the day Nutritional Yeast is a highly processed food and I've moved away from it. I do miss the taste, but we all know that just because something tastes good doesn't mean it's great to eat.
