Ottr shows which sensitivities suck and how to prevent yourself from being injured arm exercises

Your sensitivity sucks and here’s why, lots of Apex Legends and FPS game players suffer from way too high of sensitivities, limiting their potential aim accuracy. Not only you’d have worse aim but you’re also potentially risking to injure your wrist and arm with injuries such as RSI, to prevent those and work on your wrist flexibility. Ottr shows various arm and wrist exercises that prevent such problems, while also mention the very basic way.

For a good reference, I tried Skittlecakes 10cm/360 sensitivity last week! This was over 4 times my sensitivity and stupidly high. His sensitivity is 2.7 / 1600 DPI

So, this sensitivity series has really brought this to my attention. I went from 16.5cm/360 down to 30cm/360 (800dpi from 3.3 to 2.0 in-game), and my close-range fighting has improved greatly. It has taken most of a week or so to really dial in my flicks and big movements, but the improvement is amazing! My wrist was really sore the first 3 days, but it quickly adjusted. Wrist injuries had been something lurking in the back of my mind. Thank you so much for the detailed commentary on this topic!

I really glad I took those advice in the previous video abt in game sens and dpi. It rlly helped me alot like I start using my arm instead my wrist (also hit more shots)^^

doing these wrist stretches for the first actual time and my mouse actually feels significantly lighter and even more smooth. shouts out to the stretches man

I use edge of my mousepad to edge of my keyboard for a complete 360.
I do this for every game I play, shooter or otherwise, that way I can feel that there’s some consistency across the board.

i am a mechanic with 30 years in the business, im also a casual apex player, my hands see alot of abuse daily, ive been doing these stretches for years to keep mobile, definitely good tips i can easily vouch for

As a controller player I’m also getting some useful information from this. I always seem to flick my shots too short so now I need to experiment with a slightly higher sensitivity.

Thank you, Ottr, you’re a gentleman and a scholar.

playing high sens at a prolonged period of time without proper training and rest will lead to wrist injury not just playing high sens that's like saying squatting very knee dominate will lead to knee injuries, it will if you don't work on accessories and recovery I'm not saying you should play at 5cm/360 but just stating the reality of human anatomy

I suggest doing the same stretches and workouts that baseball pitchers do. Most target the fingers/wrist, elbow, and shoulder.

Maybe a stupid question, but if I want to get into aiming with my arm, should I use the armrest of my chair and if so, how high should it be. Right now I think I mainly use my wrist and my elbow is resting on my armrest wich is positioned a bit over my desk.

I play high mouse sensitivty for 30 years now. You speak about wriste and arm aiming. I would speak about finger and wrist aiming. I realy contorll accurate aim with my fingers and if i have to move the mouse more with the wrist. I strafted circels now for years against low sense players who could not folow. I know you are not fan of to low mouse sense but some of the problems are not real if you done high mouse sense for decads. i play 1800 dpi (on a WQHD monitor) and a sense of 3.2 DPI in apex and that is reduced form 4.0.

What about controller? I’ve almost maxed out my sensitivity for flicks and such but obviously wrist movement doesnt apply the same way on controller

I used to play on like 1600dpi with 5 ingame. Changed to 800 1.3 now and its alot better

Is it bad to have a 0.3 different between hipfire sense and ADS? I have 1600 dpi and 0.9 hipfire and 0.6 ads but some weird people say you gotta have the same sense to every part and welp idk anymore because most pros have it like me

i lowered my sens when i got a new mouse case my old on that id used for almost 9 years(got in 2011, used until summer 2020, when i upgraded to a razer viper mini) i dropped my sens super low and my wrist hurts way less from gaming, it will still feels sore form time to time, but that is pretty rare, and thats normally soreness in my forearm.; 10/10 USE A LOW SENS IF YO CAN

I honestly have NO IDEA how anyone could possibly play on 10cm. When I watched skittles stream and saw his sens, I assumed it was put in wrong. I assumed his DPI was actually 800 or 400. I personally think if you play apex, you should be within 20-40 cm, maybe even 25-40. Lower sens is certainly doable, but most of those people are from CS GO or something, and are used to large arm swipes, which are quite difficult to learn and makes smooth tracking more difficult (based on the kovaak's record holders generally having higher sens for the tracking scenarios). I personally use 33cm, and I find that it basically results in what I want. Another thing to note is that humans have been shown to adapt to a new sens MUCH, much faster than you think you will with no loss in "muscle memory." So try a new sens, give it a week, and think about if you like it. I personally aim train on Kovaaks at my in game sens (33cm) and as high as 20cm and as low as 40cm to train my precision and my large movements. And if that sounds crazy - that's what bardOz (world record holder on many Kovaak's scenarios) does.

It is true that high sensitivity and low sensitivity both have their ups and downs. I play on absurdly high sens, 4.2k just like Skittle's.

While lower sens IS easier to get consistent with, it's not impossible with high sens either, as long as you commit to it and are used to it. For example, I have a tiny mousepad and don't have much space to work with, and it has always been the case. So, I was inclined to play high sens in every game by default. And look at me now, I made it to Masters while dropping 10 kill games in D1 lobbies.

Realistically speaking, sensitivity matters mostly for newer or inexperienced players. Any veterans who have played on their respective sens long enough will have made their own consistency. So truly, play whatever you are comfortable with, but keep in mind that each sens has it's ups or downs!
