Chinese Mini Lathe with Brushless Sewing Machine Servo Motor and other Upgrades

I've just recently upgraded my mini Lathe with an 750W Sewing machine Servo Motor and installed angular contact bearings, because they're sealed and with that i also installed a set of metal gears.
For the motor-to-headstock transmission i went with an HTD timing belt because this motor has so much torque that the original belt and pulleys would have immediately stripped.

The Servo motor is speed adjustable from 400rpm to 4000rpm in 100rpm steps which gives me a spped range roughly from 74rpm in the low gear to about 2000rpm in the high gear which is plenty enough of speed.

The torque of this motor in the low rpm's is insane, couldn't stop it even if i tried really hard, thats really good for threading an parting off applications.

With the new angular contact bearings and the right amount of preload to them, the surface finish on the metal is not comparable to before.

For further questions feel free to ask :)

That is a rather impressive depth of cut for one of these small lathes. This upgrade was great! Nicely done

Hi, glad I caught your video. I've just blown up my motor and speed controller. I bought the lathe cheap because the guy selling it had done the same. This time instead of buying a new motor and controller with the chance it could happen again, I bought the same motor and as a bonus it comes with speed controller and digital readout, £103.18 delivered. Thanks for the idea.

Is there now a solution that allows the directions of rotation to be switched quickly?

Neat. I must get one of those tool holders that uses the extra corners of the CCMT inserts.

Toller Umbau! Unglaublich, wie die den Stahl packt. Gibt es einen Link zu dem Motor?

Do you think the motor is usable for a small bandsaw?
The variable speed makes me think of using it so my bandsaw can be used to cut metal

I am looking to use for cnc application. Does the input control take voltage say 0-5 or 0-10 V?

Where did you get the angular contact bearings? I looked everywhere. Sealed ones are $400 if you can find them. Regular ones are $50.
I ended up just getting taper roller bearings, but would be nice to get angular contact sealed so there is no maintenance

The only pre made Chinese Brushless setup I can find is almost 1300 USD for an 8x16. Too rich for my blood.

Sir, is the speed linear with the movement of the lever ? I noticed you change the program speed. Is the program speed the setting of the max speed the motor could turn ? This means if you set to 3000 rpm, the speed can vary linearly between 0-3000 rpm?
