Jessie is probably just as smart as his little brother. Being an intelligent underachiever must have really frustrated his parents.

The kind of parents who want their kids to be their trophies. They did not accomplish much with their own lives, so now they are trying to put it on their children. If they do accomplish, they are pushed for more. When they mess up, they are disowned.

Jesse's parents literally replaced him as garbage.

I always found it weird how they almost tried to erase jessie from existence with that new prop they call "son" 😐

Did Jesse ever tell his parents about the break-in he thought he had in his own home?

The "piccolo and oboe" paired with the classical music in the back and pretentious demeanor of Jesse's parents is a really great first portrayal of them. Shows what drove Jesse to burn out and fall into a criminal life, having to endure the immense expectations and suffocating helicopter parenting of his childhood.

Jake: “hey pop, I’ll tell ya what you can do with that oboe…”

Makes sense how Jesse ended up in the life he did. Being under constant pressure as a child can lead one to rebel later in life.

This scene is genius from the way the Dad pretentiously says "it's key I think" to the out of the blue revelation that Jesse was actually their favourite.

Really great casting, Jesse looks like his mom and his little brother like dad.

These are your typical tiger parents. They push their children to exceed so that they could make them live the dreams they never achieved. They treat their children like priced race horses. If they can't perform at par with expectation? They kick them out to bury their own failure

Jesse's dad looks really similar to Kevin Wachtell from Better Call Saul lol

I think they overdone the character of Jesse's little brother, to the point where he's obnoxious and gaudy. Having him as this super-intelligent, couth, sophisticated, pompous prig was so unrealistic and stupid. All he had to be was someone who was hardworking in school and academically successful so as to contrast Jesse who was a drop out.

How did Jesse turn out to be so messed up? He comes from a good home?

Its easy to disown your kids. Most do not have the Love, Loyalty and the Will to properly sacrifice for them.

God, they are so douchey and nouveau riche.
