SB Chad and two of our students, Jack and Shane, demonstrate Won-Hyo, the forth form in the ITF set of Chang-Hon forms for Tae Kwon Do. Won-Hyo has 28 steps and was named for the noted monk who introduced Buddhism to the Silla Dynasty in the year 686 AD. It is the required form for senior green belt in our school (dojang).

Just a quick note for anybody complaining that this gentleman isn't doing "real" or "proper" Taekwon-do:
The "teacup" technique he refers to, and the stance that he performs it in, are exactly as described in General Choi Hong Hi's 1965 book "Taekwon-do The Art of Self-Defence". The ITF was established in 1966 and made certain changes to the kata/hyung/tul as time went on. The Forearm Guarding Block + Bending Ready Stance of ITF Taekwon-Do is a more recent addition to this pattern. This video is correct, just maybe not for your style (or  mine for that matter). There are more types of TKD than the one you have learned.
Also, while the use of the term "teacup" might seem silly or strange to those of us who don't use the term, it's no more crazy than phrases like "knifehand" or "footsword" when you really give them a bit of thought.

when i was taught this form i learned it the correct way. i was in the USTA at that time. im quite aware that i used the term kata which is incorrect for Korean forms but i switched to Shotokan karate many years ago. the point i was making is people shouldnt be so fast to judge him. tkd has so many forms and very few systems do them the same way. the way he does them in his dojang may be slightly different but he teaches very well. it is disrespectful to criticize unless its meant as constructive expecially considering the masters rank.

Why do so many people have negative things to say about people who do things different to the way they've been taught. Yes it's different to the way I perform Tul, however the Sabum is demonstrating clearly and in an articulate way.

He might not be perfect like Bruce lee, the fact he can take you step by step to have a idea, compare to rushing through the form is refreshing . Thank you.

Mr. Chad, this is an excellent video. Your slow step by step presentation of the traditional Won-Hyo Young form was quite helpful. Granted every dojang has their little "extras" they may add or take away from. Your presentation is accurate and carries the traditional movements required for this form. Unfortunately its sad to read that some students do not get taught this form in their schools. I have noticed that a lot of the newer schools are removing the basic fundamentals such as these forms. However you keep your students in with the traditional ways. Good form sir!

73clairewillis: We do not practice sine wave, so you are correct. This video was taken strictly for my personal students as a quick instructional. It was done shortly after I injured my ankle and doing this side kick was very painful, so I completely agree with your comment on the quality of the side kick.

He is demonstrating in an articulate way, but the techniques are wrong. Bending ready stance is one technique. this is totally missing. Tea Cup is NOT a taekwon-Do technique.

that is a really bad scooping block you are supposed to bend your back leg  I am a black stripe going for black belt and this is really disappointing to see from a 4th degree

im not tkd anymore but i learned this kata many years ago and i rather like the way he explained the kata. keep in mind he is explaining the kata for children and people who just learned or are learning the form. im sure if he does it at full speed he performs much better than during teaching demonstration

ESTO ES UNA OFENSA AL GENERAL CHOI Y SU LEGADO, NO TIENEN LA TECNICA BASICA, NO HAY MOVIMIENTO ONDULANTE.

Jorge,
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. What technical content are you suggesting that is needed?

you should have learnt how to cross your hands from white belt

You aren't supposed to let your hands touch.. They are supposed to hover closely, but not touch. I guess ITF Taekwondo is different than UTA Taekwondo.
