I agree I save the coppers and I don't actively buy any copper rounds! I do have a bunch but they were gifts!

I remember doing this for silver coins in the 90s. Times have changed an now hunting for copper.

Absolutely worth doing. Never bought rounds or bars because of the skyhigh premiums. Never bothered with coin roll hunting but I'm definitely down for culling copper cents from circulation. In the beginning stages of concentrating several hundred pounds of scrap copper, courtesy of the local curbside pickup in our area. Very time consuming but the fruits of which I hope are a lot of valuable metals.

Problem right now with hoarding copper cents is the US government forbids melting them --- they know the copper price would drop significantly if people went off and melted their copper after an initial rise. Recall silver started a gradual increase around the late 50's then accelerated modestly then rapidly in 1980 to $40 per troy ounce, by 1993 silver was at one of its historic lows -- I believe $6 per troy ounce. it has been on a slow rise with a rapid rise around 2011.

In the long-run cents will be permitted to be melted as natural supplies are dwindling and recycling or extraterrestial mining will be the only source of copper (this is true for silver and gold too). However this will be later in the 21st century.

I would think the only way to get around the US restriction is to have them melted abroad and then cashed. Copper prices have risen and I think close to $3 or 4 a pound. So good for long-term but I would not bank my retirement on it. For me I don't stack copper but I do pull any cents in very nice condition from circulation - preferably red cents but will take a nice red brown from the 60's or earlier. I also think numismatically it is worth collecting the zircoins that you find in circulation in excellent condition as these degrade far worse than the copper cents. So I foresee in the future colelctors desiring nice grade zircoins for their collections. Just as one challenge, try and find a nice 1986 red cent without spotting or ugly bubbling --- not easy. There are a few years the quality is high - 1985 for example but many don't have the potentially nice toning as nicely as pre1982 cents .

Just on other reason to weigh your cents, there were 7 compositional varieties of the 1982 cents making it a rther complex in itself to collect. Also there are a few 1983 or 1984 with the old pre 1982 composition that are valuable. I don't pursue this just because of time and Lincoln cents and copper stacking are NOT my main focus but I keep these facts in mind.

I think stacking copper pennies is a good idea because of what happened to pre-1965 silver coins. They eventually all got hoarded out of circulation, which will eventually happen with 95% copper pennies. Also there has been talk of pennies being discontinued some day. If that happens those pennies could be sold for melt value.

Yes, any way in which you can store purchasing power in something real, particularly one of the three monetary metals (i.e. Gold, Silver, Copper), which correspond directly with large, medium, and small purchases, is always a good idea. Keeping Copper pennies is the cheapest way to stack copper, beyond simply passively keeping any copper that you happen to come across. For example, I just threw away an old space heater the other day. Should I take that whole thing apart and take all of the copper out of it? It depends on the amount of effort you want to put into keeping Copper, but you can definitely pick up a good amount of copper by stripping all of the electronic and mechanical appliances that pass through your hands during your years on this ball of rock & dirt. I keep Copper mostly as a way off adding additional diversity to my monetary metals stack, which might also avoid the various regulations that are likely to be put on metals like Gold and Silver.

There is no coin shortage. There is a shortage of circulation of the coin. The government produces millions of coins per year. Always know that.

I can't imagine hoarding copper! My gosh I can't even find enough places to stack my other precious metals - I'd be in real trouble if I started stacking copper lol. Man I'd get the stink eye something fierce. Good video and good for you if you can make a profit doing this.

I think it definitely is worth looking for them. They are worth 4cent each right? I have payed for a few copper rounds. They are very cool designs and do actually sell in auctions for more than they cost. But yeah never buy rounds to melt for sure. Awesome video! I do the same with my change. Always rolling back up. Good luck with you hunts and your stack. Oh it’s the end of the video and you said they are 2.2cent. Gotcha
