You can't help but feel bad for Trunks. Among the many things he wanted in life, knowing was father is one of them. Only to find out he was a selfish, short tempered asshole who not only berates him at every point, but is also risking the fate of the world for the sake of his pride. The first time he ever got any positive reinforcement was when he blasted him to kingdom come, and any real sign of genuine love was from when he died. It's as sad as the jokes surrounding it are funny.
