The gas station near me sells
Small drinks for 60 cents
Medium for $1:43
Large for $1:63

Except for the McDonalds fries, the fry-to-dollar ratio does improve with increasing order size. So while you’re paying some thirty cents extra, you are getting a better deal.
Exactly as designed.

Not to mention listing something as 2.99 instead of 3.00 even though it’s the same price, it’ll appear less.

Also, here in North America, most prices are not a full dollar, they always end in .99 because $4.99 sounds like less than $5 even though they're practically the same

I like how the medium is meant to boost the sales for the large, but every time I’m at McDonald’s I get medium 😂

There's a video where someone weighed McDonald's fries sizes and large is actually best value for money for quite a bit.

I must admit, sliding scale pricing (making stuff cheaper the more you buy) is an excelent way of getting people to buy more than they other wise would.

$1.39-$1.09= $0.30
$1.09-$0.89= $0.20

The last one only tricks your mind if the medium price is closer to the big one than the small one

There’s also some companies that would have new product come in to stores and immediately go on sale. The item could be a sweater for $80 on sale and “original” price $120, but the original price was actually $80 in the first place. This way you buy it thinking you’re getting a deal when in reality you just paid the price that was intended.

Max: "They trick you into buying the bigger one because it seems to be the better deal"
Also Max: *buys all 3 sizes*

Another thing I noticed they do is trying to sell more to you by making bigger discounts. For example, if you look at a typical “buy one get one free” offer, then it’s just a worse version of 50% off offer.

I hate stores that force you to walk through the entire store in order to leave, thats the most annoying trick stores use, especially when the item i want to buy is at the start

Hey McDonalds Employee here, I’d say our location makes and sells about 120~ Large fries a day and 437~ medium sized fries. Not saying decoy prices don’t work but try using drinks as an example

Hey, I have a fun fact for you. I’ve been working at Mc Donald’s for a couple of months now, and I can confidently say that medium fries are ordered the most. What you are saying is right, it’s way better to get a large, but so many people have no idea.

The discount pricing rip-off thing has been going on for years in online catalogs. Specifically Woman Within and Romans both plus sizes.

They say 50 percent off a blouse. You go see it and ALWAYS the blouse comes in a dozen colors. ONE of those colors is 50 percent off the rest 15 percent off. To make it even more difficult, you have to click on every color to get a price you don't know which one is the big deal until you do. Then some times the most popular sizes are unavailable which makes you settle on the more expensive colors since you are there spending so much time deep diving to find a bargain which is fake.

They've been doing this for years.

They also push up the price when a deep discount is given. If you wait awhile a regular discount happens which is actually cheaper than the so-called bigger discount by a few dollars.
They've been doing this for YEARS!

I’ve noticed this on a few clothing apps. They either put the percentage up with the same price or the price low with the percentage high but in reality.. It’s all the same price and nothing has changed
