I'm a pharmacy junior, and this type of branding happened with Panadol (same as Tylenol) and it caused people to overdose because they assumed different packets were for different purposes. Overdosing on Panadol can damage your liver. Overdosing on Neurofen can cause stomach bleeding. I understand the marketing perspective, but these companies have the health of millions of people in their hands, and should be more careful.

As a pharmacist i must add a few point : yes, general neurofen and generic ibuprofen are exactly the same thing ! Yes, quality control and cosistency of weight of tablets, hardness, coating thickness are better on branded medication but the difference in ibuprofens is negligible . HOWEVER, this is not the case when you get the fast acting neurofen, fast acting neurofen gets absorbed faster not because it is a different active ingredient but it is because of its dosage form that is liquid gel encapsulated with a thin gel layer that delivers the ibuprofen and releases it faster ! But hear it from me that the difference in price is not worth it.

Same with toothpaste. With a few exceptions, all the different varieties are the same.

Enamel Restoration toothpaste, Whitening toothpaste, anticavity toothpaste, fresh breath toothpaste, deep clean, gum health etc all have the exact same ingredients.

Sensitivity toothpaste has KNO3, some gingivitis toothpaste has SnF, otherwise all the same

The targeted type of medicine might cause a placebo effect where the user may feel like the disease is being cured faster whilst the generic one might make the user have less confidence in the medicine itself.
