The AN-225 was the world’s largest and heaviest aircraft ever built with maximum takeoff weight of 640 ton at a speed of 763.20 km per hour at an altitude of 35,270 feet. AN-225 also popularly known as MRIYA which means DREAM in Ukrainian Language.
This strategic heavy lift cargo aircraft was designed and manufactured by the Antonov Design Bureau of Ukraine. Originally, it was built for carrying Buran Space Shuttle and boosters of Energia Rocket of then Soviet Union. But after the fall of the Soviet Union and cancellation of Buran Space Shuttle program, the aircraft was kept in a hanger for long 8 years. After that the Antonov Airline Company refurbished the aircraft and started carrying of heaviest and largest cargos throughout the world which other cargo aircraft cannot.
During the current conflict in between Russia and Ukraine this world’s largest and heaviest cargo aircraft has been destroyed in missile attack by the Russian Forces while the AN-225 was parked at a hanger in the Hostomel Airport and we lost the aircraft forever.
The tragedy is there is only one AN-225 was built by the Antonov Company.
