Dr. Clough describes how proper movement of the big toe is very critical to resolvig the pain of a Mortons neuroma. When the big toe is not moving properly, a common compensation for this is moving around the outside of the foot as we move forward. When this happens the metatarsals on the outside of the ball of the foot move more than normal and a shearing force develops on the nerve between the third and fourth toes. This can cause irritation and enlargement of the nerve between these bones, and pain in this area and in the toes as well.
Once movement is restored to the big toe by lifting the toe slightly, you will now be allowed to roll right through the big toe and minimize and forces on the outside of the foot. This is getting to the root cause of a Mortons neuroma and more than 90% of the authors patients have responded to this technique of dealing with this condition.

”Once movement of the big toe is raised slightly” What does that mean? Lift toe while walking. Or place something under it.
