The Panasonic Toughbook FZ-55 improved in many ways on its predecessor the CF-54. Both are semi rugged but key features make the FZ-55 able to be more easily customized. One of the design decisions made by Panasonic was to replace the standard 2.5" sata drive (HDD or SSD) that went into the CF-54 with an m.2 SSD. Switching to the M.2 form factor allowed Panasonic to free up some much needed real estate in the FZ-55 Toughbook and allow for more agile customization by the user. Standardizing the FZ-55 line at a minimum of 512GB SSD of storage eliminated a lot of post factory upgrade cost to the end user. An important security and convenience feature of the CF-54 drive design was the quick removable caddy the drive was seated in. Panasonic retained this function by placing the M.2 in a quick removable housing, allowing the user to quickly remove the SSD and stored data and physically disconnect it from the unit. In this video, The Rugged Store shows both the CF-54 and FZ-55 drives side by side in a quick comparison! Interested in the FZ-55 or have further questions? Visit us at
