Check out this short film created by Epic Games' 3Lateral team in collaboration with local Serbian artists, including renowned actor Radivoje Bukvić, who delivers a monologue based on a poem by Mika Antic. The performance was filmed at Take One studio's mocap stage with cinematographer Ivan Šijak acting as director of photography.

To bring Senua's Saga: Hellblade II to life, Ninja Theory, a part of XBOX Game Studios, is now using Metahuman Animator as well. The game is running in Unreal Engine 5.

This is the most convincing CGI human I have seen, this includes movies

Umm...that first clip is insane. Materials, lighting, surfacing details are pretty much bang on. Eyes are incredibly convincing. I think the facial muscles and mouth movements still need work to cross the uncanny valley but daaamn that is so so so close. I think even just doing some realtime AI off of deepfake training on the face would push this beyond any movie quality and in realtime...that's just crazy.

This is the first time ever that a CG face doesn't fall into the uncanny valley for me - this is better than movies

At certain moments, I completely lost track of the fact that I was watching a digital creation and instead felt completely immersed in a captivating movie-like experience.

I love and hate it how much I got invested into this guy, story and setting. And it's just a cinematic showcase. I need more of that. Whole game.

I’m not sure what impressed me more the visuals or the audio!! Listening to this on my phone landscape and the voices on the second bit were so well panned

i literally kept saying to myself "THATS A REAL PERSON, THATS A REAL PERSON" like this is the craziest technology i have EVER seen when it comes to realism on humans

I'm beyond ready for a miniseries to be made with this technology!
Imagine the kinds of worlds we'll get to see!

This meta human standard will be standardized in the next 5 years for all AAA games imo

There was moments where I actually thought it was a composite of real footage on a cgi background. this is absolutely insane.

Facial capture has truly gotten jaw dropping. But even tho this unreal metahuman animator system is superior in nearly everyway, there is still ONE area that LA Noir's tech got that this and other modern face cap systems don't.

Small wrinkles forming and disappearing with subtle facial expression changes.

You can see it best at the transition from live to cg at 4:47

The fore head wrinkles and smile wrinkles that connect the corner of his mouth to his nose are not more defined in the cg model the way they are live. That's because those wrinkles are too small to be rendered via polygons and can only be shown via texture.

LA Noir's system being much older couldn't render them via polygons either, but they DID have wrinkles like that become more defined via the texturing. And that's something I'm surprised modern face cap systems don't take advantage of.

The skin texture on this model is static. Only the actual model of the face moves. But until we get 3D models that are upwards of a multiple hundred _trillion_ polygons the facial models won't capture small wrinkles forming/becoming more defined without having altering textures on the face.

This is the level of realistic facial animation we need for UE5 games, nobody must be able to pick out reality from animation, and then we can make movies and shows "live action", without any limitations at all, put all the money into this and space research, the only interesting things to develop, while saving our planet by improving efficiency in general of course.

It's crazy how gaming tech is developing movies and TV shows as well.

Man, I wish someone remade that “The Casting” tech demo from Heavy Rain (PS3) on UE5 to really see how far we’ve come in just 15 years.

Can’t wait to watch this ten years from now and laugh about how real we thought this looked!… but yeah it looks amazing.

The 'Unreal engine' sure is unreal, amazing how far tech has come in the last few years.
Each year things are improving fast as PCs get faster and faster.
The tech level is rising fast thanks to PCs themselves, the growth/intelligent scale is ramping up faster each year.
Cheers.

Wow, this is astonishing, and im constantly watching 3d footage, and this is the best game engine footage ive seen. Guessing it was raytraced, but hopefully one day soon it will be realtime.

This is by far one of the best I have seen, but no matter how good they get at mimicking reality, I can't help but instantly notice the difference between a real person and one of these meta faces.
The giveaways are usually the eyes or slight head motions that don't seem normal which could be the result of the excess gear they have to carry around while acting.
