“Men Should Have to Spend 9 Months…” #fertility

Sperm quality and epigenetic markers play a crucial role in pregnancy outcomes, influencing the risks of complications such as miscarriage, preterm birth, and preeclampsia. While much focus is placed on maternal health, research increasingly shows that paternal factors also contribute significantly to fetal development and overall pregnancy success.

Poor sperm quality—characterized by low motility, abnormal morphology, or DNA fragmentation—can lead to failed implantation, early pregnancy loss, or developmental abnormalities in the embryo. Sperm DNA damage, for instance, has been linked to a higher risk of miscarriage due to genetic instability. Additionally, epigenetic markers on sperm, which regulate gene expression without altering the DNA sequence, can influence placental function and fetal growth. Abnormal epigenetic modifications—potentially caused by factors like age, diet, smoking, or environmental toxins—have been associated with an increased likelihood of preeclampsia, a condition characterized by high blood pressure and organ damage in pregnant women.

*** Before conceiving a baby! Not before baby is born...I'm sure a lot of people will miss that detail.

I'm shocked how many people didn't know diet/smoking/etc. affects sperm health. There's a reason animals are selected for fitness in the wild

Yall remember how Henry VIII wives struggled with miscarriages and he blamed them for it when he was very obese and unhealthy…. I feel so sorry for those women knowing this now

It's kinda sad how science proves that men should be JUST as involved.... And yet doctors are barely talking about this.

My husband quit drinking and has been taking his health seriously. Our last pregnancy was a cake walk!!! I didn’t have any morning sickness, migraines, or any health issue. Baby came on time and my labor to delivery am was 1.5hrs with one push. So I think we are on to something here

My husband did this for us. He stopped drinking beer, ate better, went jogging, made sure he was sleeping better and other things. We had 2 miscarriages before he did these things, after he improved his health, we now have 2 healthy kids 😊

That means sperm donors should disclose full health reports...

Thank you for sharing that miscarriages can be based on the father's health as well. It is not talked about enough, and majority of people thinks it's based on the mother's health only ❤

I hope that the women out there that have felt like they were solely to blame for difficult pregnancies see this and have it hopefully lessens some of their guilt. We are not fully to blame.

Not to mention that men greatly contribute to or reduce the stress a woman feels during and after pregnancy, which can affect baby's brain chemistry and mom's PPD, bonding with baby, immunity, and breast milk production. The man a woman has children with is the single most important decision of her childrens' lives.

Funny thing is in order to increase my sperm count, I went on a health craze for about four or five months before my wife and I conceived. I started losing weight and it started exercising more. I quit vaping and drink a ton of water. I purposefully made a efforts to lower my stress, I took daily supplements, I did whatever I could! Now that the baby is here, I am much too stressed out and exhausted to do anything lol

That actually made a lot of sense. During my second brother's time, my father is doing cycling, running marathon and have stopped smoking completely, best shape of his life and my mom barely knows she's pregnant (she got a small stature and hormonal irregularity, so irregular menstruation and small baby bump). She only realized that she's pregnant after the pregnancy hits 6 months old. No morning sickness, no headaches, healthy weight gain. Basically, the smoothest pregnancy of her life.

There’s a reason fitness and health is directly linked to attraction. Health and fitness means fertility and increased chance of genetic spread. It all comes back to biology

My husband doesn't just contribute in the tango and health, he makes sure I'm cared for everyday. I have good food, he helps me stay calm when I'm stressed, he takes over a lot of the house. It's more than just health and tango a man can do for a pregnancy, he should take care of mom too.

This honestly explains why my sister in law had such a healthy, easy pregnancy. They BOTH worked on their health for like 2 years before conceiving.

True. My first pregnancy was from a 52 year old sperm donor, who ate an unhealthy diet, drank nothing but beer and coca-cola, did not workout and was super fat. He thought because he had an easy time getting women pregnant (26 pregnancies) that his sperm quality was just as good as any man's. If not better than average. Only 3 of his babies were born at the time he donated to me, the third had pre-eclampsia complications and he told me about the miscarriages of three women around the time I got pregnant. Then I miscarried too, at 11 weeks, despite having a very healthy lifestyle and young eggs. The cause was a failed placenta. Sperm quality is just as important as egg quality, but society mainly focusses on eggs because it is a way to place the onus on women to be hyper aware of our aging fertility and get pregnant early to "avoid fetal abnormalities", as if it is only our fault when babies are born deformed or ill.

I did my bachelor and masters thesis in the lab analysing sperm. Normal shaped sperm is rare! We used to call each other with the lab partner to show the "beautiful" ones if saw them. Most have weird shapes of heads, broken necks and tales. Strange things like double tales are also rare though
