I was the chief training officer for West Vancouver Transit many years ago, and I can tell you that the driver would have been terminated long before this accident.

It's taken a year to figure out Greyhound had a lousy bus driver. The parked trucks didn't jump into the bus. He/she was nodding off or playing with a phone

Why was he not fired before this incident. Apparently driver had no business driving with the lives of so many people as his sole responsibility.

Drive stupid for 3 seconds and I'm coming up to have a chat with a driver.

Greyhound buses use to be everywhere all the time, but in the last few year's, I rarely see a bus once a week!

Sounds like they're protecting him.

This is clearly a problem with neglect on the company side, and the company should be held liable, for making conditions like this exist

Lord this man shouldn't never been behind any wheel !

Greyhound doesn't let a driver get his full sleep, if they are short handed they call you right back to work instead of giving you the mandatory off time commercial drivers have to have.

Driver should not have been allowed behind the wheel, however, NEVER park on the exit ramp. Instead park on the entrance ramp if you must stop. 40 years experience

Did they pay these people? That's all I want to know, and that will tell me all I need to know about how greyhound REALLY feels about their customers.

So, this is literally trouble in Paradise!

The next rest area going east on I-70 has been closed for "repairs" for over 5 years. Illinois should lose it's federal highway funding until it gets all rest areas on the interstate open. If driver fatigue is a danger, Illinois dereliction of duty to keep rest (for drivers) areas open undermines highway safety. If the other rest area to the east had been open the crowd of trucks at the rest area by Silver Lake could have been divided between both rest areas and big trucks might not have been on the shoulder of the exit where the crash occurred. Illinois should also be a defendant in civil litigation cases re. the Greyhound bus crash. Illinois has some skin in that game.

And people try to blame trucks for parking because we get too tired to drive. Once at the end of a trip I was going through NJ and receiver didn't have parking and all truck stops were full one morning. I had already gone over my legal drive limit trying to find parking and was just too tired/starting to fall asleep so I pulled over on the interstate emergency lane far over enough even though signs said illegal for trucks to park in emergency lanes I had to pull over anyway for a nap after 13+ hours cause no parking was available anywhere. I napped for about 30+ minutes and awoke to a parking violation warning on trailer. It's beyond me how us truckers has to sometimes choose between having a ticket or bad accident from being forced to drive because we can't legally pull over on side of interstate "WHENEVER NO OTHER PARKING AVAILABLE".

With my 2 years experience I know my limitations well. Sometimes there's just no where to stop for rest based on the area and time of delivery/pickup. It's not our fault some people can't maintain their own lanes/shouldn't be driving and crash into us even though we're pulled all the way over in an emergency lane. Bad thing is allot of 4 wheelers also crash into state troopers in the emergency lane also even though a truck wasn't there. People also crash into construction vehicles in emergency lanes. Nearly every time a trucker gets too tired to drive for any reason sometimes we just have to pull over immediately as sometimes the human body can just get too tired to function right for any reason one day but most of the time we "have to pull over" into the emergency lane for a quick 15 minute nap and we are breaking the law to get an emergency nap in most cases. I can't believe what little respect the legal system has towards us truckers especially considering without the work we do people in multiple areas would perish from starvation and lack of medicine.

Now imagine being a greyhound driver instead of a truck I can just imagine the backlash from either passengers or the job itself for needing to pull over for a 30 minute nap or maybe even an hour nap if

If we have to pull over on the Interstate in an emergency due to severe fatigue we shouldn't be held responsible for some distracted driver who couldn't maintain their own lanes from cellphone usage or intoxicated driving. Anyone who can't maintain their lane for any reason shouldn't be driving at the time or probably not at all if a cellphone is more important than a driver's life. If you don't have the personal lifestyle which allows for proper rest than don't join the transportation industry like if there is allot going on in your personal life which stops you from getting adäquate sleep. Proper rest is so important when it comes to driving long hours which becomes fairly easy with proper daily rest. The bus driver I guess thought to themselves they'll just "tough it out" but the human body is going to sleep no matter what when too tired even if you're driving you are going to fall asleep eventually no matter

I would have went up to that driver and told him to stop, or I would have called the Highway patrol from my cell saying we have a terrible driver. I would had raised so much hell, he would have had to pull over. This is crazy. I would have also called Greyhound while on the bus. You know Greyhound has pull with the government.

The person went to sleep 😴 behind the wheel. The person was supposed to tell Greyhound he/she couldn't drive because fatigued. The reason why they may be covering ... Greyhound may have been told he was fatigued and supervisor probably gave an inspirational speech and was made to drive anyway. This person probably had it documented that they were not able to drive and probably had another job.

If he had these offensives agents him why did greyhound keep him. It sounds like they knew he was a liability and all of the sudden his files came up missing

My ? is to why none of those passengers did nothing to get that driver out of that seat & save themselves of what happened. When traveling on any commercial vehicle be it on land, water, or air, I observe the operator closely for fatigue & drug use or under the influence of/medical events. I have stopped some & glad that I did. Condolences to the families & friends of lost ones. You must now research the driver & or pilots of vehicles that you ride on. Should never have to be but is now mandatory. It's your life. P.S. That driver should've been fired long before this accident.

Greyhound wasn’t protecting him- they were protecting their liability coverage.

I can understand some times one falls through the cracks, but exactly how big is this crack?

Imagine being on a bus right now not knowing that your driver was higher up the list than this guy for dangerous driving.
