About SAS (from Wikipedia):
Scandinavian Airlines, more commonly known and styled as SAS, is the flag carrier of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. SAS is an abbreviation of the company's full name, Scandinavian Airlines System or legally Scandinavian Airlines System Denmark-Norway-Sweden. Part of the SAS Group and headquartered at the SAS Frösundavik Office Building in Solna, Sweden, the airline operates 180 aircraft to 90 destinations (as of December 2019). The airline's main hub is at Copenhagen-Kastrup Airport, with connections to 109 destinations around the world. Stockholm Arlanda Airport (with 106 destinations) is the second largest hub, with Oslo Airport, Gardermoen being the third major hub of SAS. Minor hubs also exist at Bergen Airport, Flesland, Göteborg Landvetter Airport, Stavanger Airport, Sola, and Trondheim Airport, Værnes. SAS Cargo is an independent, wholly owned subsidiary of Scandinavian Airlines and its main office is at Copenhagen Airport.

About A321LR (from Wikipedia):
In October 2014, Airbus started marketing a 164-seat, 97 t (214,000 lb) MTOW variant with three auxiliary fuel tanks called the A321neoLR (Long Range) with 100 nmi (190 km; 120 mi) more operational range than a Boeing 757-200 configured with 169 seats, 27% lower trip costs and 24% lower per seat costs; it was scheduled for introduction in the second half of 2018, two years after the A321neo.

I took the inaugural flight from Newark to Gothenburg on the same plane's return leg, it was a surreal experience to see Gothenburg for the first time and I'm really glad you have this route now.

I live in Dusseldorf, Germany! And this is the same situation for me… I don’t have family in the US but we go there often! We were soo happy that Delta Airlines
continued the nonstop flights to Atlanta last week after not doing so for 3 years! I literally had tears in my eyes ❤

This is incredible and how far you've gone this seems like a present to you and I hope you enjoy it and I hope you will continue making these great honest reviews.

I’m so happy you got to have a direct flight! Coming from a smaller city, I can relate to having to connect to go anywhere.

Super chuffed for you Daniel! Glad to see your family bond is still so strong despite a whole ocean separating them! I haven’t had the opportunity to fly a narrowbody long haul, but it can’t be that bad. Sure, the available space is noticeably less than a dual-aisle plane, but the way people talk about it, it’s like the widebody is a palace in comparison to a modern narrowbody.

Wow! It’s heartening to hear you talk about how the newly inaugurated direct flight from Gothenburg to NYC reminds you of your early flying days as a teenager and the emotional impact it has left. I hope the president of SAS has taken note of the praiseworthy aspects of the flight and plane as well as well as the deficiencies. Stay well

I flew this exact plane, SE-DMO, from CPH-BOS on Thursday! In seat 2A. I was very impressed with SAS - this was my first flight with them since flying to Oslo in business class in 1999.

Dan, your authenticity and humor is always refreshing. The travel review industry needs this kind of storytelling.

As a half Japanese and Swedish with my fatter's family based in Gothenburg, I know the significance! Though my parents aren't separated, we do go to Gothenburg every summer and every time we all wished that there was a direct flight from Tokyo to Gothenburg. The "pain" of always transiting in Copenhagen (even though one of my fav airport) is not the same as flying direct somewhere like you said! One day maybe we will see a Tokyo - Gothenburg flight, but I do not have my hopes up as we just finally got a Stockholm - Tokyo flight! Happy for you Dan, keep up the good work and all the best!

Great video documenting the experience. Having gone back and forth between Gothenburg and Phoenix regularly throughout my childhood, this was a big day in my life. I can only imagine how important it it was for you. I can see myself at 4:21!

I very much know your feel. When I grew up we lived in a city that did have international flights, just not to my dads country - or at least on a regular. I regularly connected via Vienna, Zurich, Munich etc just to get to visit my dad.

Go on Dan! Thank you for all your wonderful content :)

Gothenburg's airport reminds me a lot of the pleasant surprise we had when we chose to fly back to US in December directly from Bergen, Norway, rather than from Oslo. Bergen's Flesland Airport had some lovely shops and eateries, a pretty good-sized duty free, and was clean, efficient and crowd-free.
