Thank you for posting this. This is one of my holy grail movies that I've wanted someone with very knowledgeable understanding of horror to do. Just wish I could watch these live but your channel is probably my favorite horror YouTube site going. Every week there's more can't miss stuff. Sorry for 💋 your ass so much but this is great.

Just discovered your channel. Great commentary, and if I may say, you have a lovely voice ❤

Great commentary! Some of the best--or at least most interesting--horror movies are made by non-horror directors: Nosferatu by Werner Herzog, Dracula by Francis Ford Coppola, Silence of the Lambs by Jonathan Demme, Don't Look Now by Nicolas Roeg. I'm sure there are more.

Pretty sure that typewriter just looks darker because of the lighting, but I could be wrong..Also, notice how Jack is not completely aligned with the table centered when showing him typing from the back..And then later, it shows that same scene where you see him typing from behind, and he is completely centered with the the table..As to say, the hotel has its full hold over him..

Everyone talks about the scene in IT(book) but none talks about the corridor scene in the Shining.

It has been a great many years since I read the original novel (and The Shining is still one of the few that ever actually scared me), and I don't remember anything about this from the DVD extras on this version of the film, but if you wanted to maybe think too hard about the typewriter:

Jack starts out making an honest try to improve himself, as a recovering alcoholic. He really does want to write something. The typewriter changing from light to dark - assuming it's intentional and not a random prop accident - could be another very subtle sign that the hotel is corrupting Jack and twisting his intentions. Especially if you consider his using it more as a prop than a tool as the story goes on, and the last things he types on it.

I really wish Kubrick would've ended it like they did in the book. I know they had limitations on what they could do with the material and practical effects, but if dude could fake the moon landing, I'm thinking he could've gotten more creative with the screenplay adaptation.

Great commentary. Followed up from the Lotus Eaters chat with Josh.

Hope these commentaries become a regular thing. Would love one for John Carpenter's The Fog and Prince of Darkness.

Wendy should have seen the Grady twins in the hallway or anything else besides the silly skeletons in the lobby..And I still think Kubrick should have left in the scrapbook scenes and the hospital scene at the end.
