I feel strange feelings when I see this, kind of mixed emotions between sadness and like I was living at that time 😢

... This worker with the ladder passing for a second in the shadow
seems to make us understand how fleeting our life is,
how short the time of an era is... 🥀

What a time to be alive, to literally be able to see footage from a bygone era where there is literally not a single soul alive when it was taken. Crazy to think.

C'est beau et triste à la fois ! Tous ces gens ne sont plus de ce monde , c'est émouvant ! J'en ai les larmes aux yeux !

At the time, there were many elevated train tracks in and around New York City. New Yorkers referred to them as the "El". The tracks were initially in the streets and kept hitting people, animals, and all kinds of things that got in the way. Most of the raised tracks were converted into tunnels. However, some of the original Els still remain and are very much still in use 100 years later in areas like Harlem and Washington Heights, as well as in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx.

I'm always astonished by how brilliant engineers were back then. The whole design of the elevated rail system including calculations and drawings were done by hand. I'm just beginning my engineering career and am so thankful we have computers to do much of the heavy lifting now.
