A Mora knife would make a nice addition.

Hey um. Could we stop with pointing out HF actually sells decent stuff. I'd prefer everyone thinks they're garbage. Keeps prices down.

Cody, I cant tell you how much I appreciate the recent theme of being able to "do more with less". I was raised by a dad who taught me that quality tools definitely matter. But if something exist that can get the job done at least semi-efficiently, and not take the investment of a professional in that field, then it is superior to us. We dont all need a snap on screwdriver set to keep a home running... thank you.

Mora is the first thing that comes to mind for me as well. The only reservation I have is that you’re 2/3 of the way through this with HF tools. Go with a HF knife. Think about it. You’re pushing the envelope with possibly producing a reliable kit for the $25ish range.

I have an older harbor freight saw, about 30 years old. I've been using it for bole pruning Douglas for trees in Oregon. Thousands of trees from the ground up to about 7 feet, to develop clear wood. From 7 foot up I use a pole saw. But, for a $3 saw, it's produced a lot of clear timber.

Professional homeowners don't need to buy expensive tools, they can "upgrade" cheap ones.

The Mora Companion is a good little knife, comes in right around $16 bucks and comes with a sheath, picked one up for a cheap hunting knife and have been happy

More really great ideas. One thing that I would definitely add... on the saw use a bright orange lanyard, blaze orange tape or paint on the ax handle, also the same on whatever knife you choose. Easy to find when you put them down or drop them.

An Old Hickory butcher knife would be a good knife to go along with these other tools. They're not to expensive and they are full tang carbon steel.

Morakniv makes the most sense to me. Inexpensive but still quality and can do most things you need from a knife

I’d vote Mora as well, seems to be a common consensus.

You’d be hard pressed to find anything better than a mora to fill that niche.

I really appreciate this series. I may never afford a $200 axe, but I could…swing…a $12 axe

if you do not require a folding saw, the Schmidt garden saw from some Canadian dollar stores is good for the price (approx $4). the handle is a covered metal tube so you could easily stick it on a pole for a polesaw. For a folding saw I really like the silky gomboy 210 straight blade.

Has to be a Morakniv, like hands down.
This kit is robust, simple, and effective. (Not cheap, but inexpensive)
Awesome.

The only knife in that price range would be a Mora.

Morakniv is a natural option, but Cold Steel has some decent offerings as well.
