The Dutch also built a wall around this city to protect it from the Indians and the British. This is why you have Wall Street as there was a wall along that route

You were wrong about the Dutch buying the island from local tribes. They bought it from a tribe there for a hunting trip and Manhattan did belong to them. Sooo, the very first land deal in America was a fraud. Paul Harvey reported this as “The Rest of The Story, ” about fifty years ago. Perhaps the Dutch should have bought title insurance.

The island is not big. Probably tribes were tiny. It is unbelievable that up to 1830s almost all people lived south of Houston street. New York was a small town relatively recently
