One detail I noticed recently about this scene that I really like is that when Shinji and Toji enters the room, Shinji just walks casually inside while Toji mirrors the way Shinji walks inside the room for the first time in Episode 5. Showing how close Shinii and Rei have gotten.

I love how we don’t see Rei blush, it cuts to her and she’s already blushing. The surprise that viewers feel from seeing her display emotion is on-par with the surprise Rei herself feels.
