This is a good explanation. While LRC is feature rich, new features continue to be added to LR making it a very good option for many people. You are WRONG about Lightroom being cloud based and Lightroom Classic was local storage based, local storage is now in Lightroom too. AI based searching in LR make using keywords a thing of the past. I use both but I am more and more impressed with LR.

Unless I do not understand Adobe's product set, another major difference is the integration with Photoshop. Adobe is reserving a lot of photographic control to Photoshop (like layers, and most recently bokeh management) so if those things are important to you, you must use Classic, because there does not seem to be a plan that provides Lightroom (non-classic) with Photoshop. If I'm wrong, please correct me!

The major difference between the two for me is workflow. Lightroom can only be used as a plugin for Photoshop, whereas Lightroom Classic can be used as a plugin for for Photoshop as well as Affinity Photo and On1 (maybe more, but you get the point). I'm sorry though but you are WRONG about Lightroom being cloud based and Lightroom Classic was local storage based, because those lines have been blurred now, considering local storage is now in Lightroom. You are spot on about the advanced editing in Lightroom Classic though.

Great video, thank you! Do you know if LrC can sync photos off the cloud that I've edited in Lightroom Mobile, and vice-versa?

Thank you!

You were very clear. I'm just returning to photography. Exciting times.

Early user of Lr, back when you bought it. Much to learn. Got a 3 month free for CC to start up. Prepping to make it masterclass time. Healing has taken up much bandwidth, only just in the initial "flexing while 1st getting off the bench, not ready for a starting position yet" stage. Officially start the 3 months in 10 days.

A convergence here is that part of my physical rehab is juggling! Balls, will get pins soon.
All these I/Os now, phones, tablets, lappies; all these options for viewing and processing & how to mix and match! (up to my needs.) This will be a juggle.

Q:
Can use be coordinated like this->
I prefer to do most of my processing at home, so Classic. Got to have raw backup anyways. What I want is selected photos, the raw files I want & selected jpgs-processed ones, I am just shifting to fuji x-h1 & will be snapping both raw & 3 bracketed film sims, made available for LrCC from Lrc.

I'm not seeing I'll do much work on mobiles, beyond viewing, selecting-grading. Mostly I think I'll work on further processing the jpgs, the film sims. I'd want those selectively synced back to LrC, off mobile.

Can LrC be automated to I pick a color as a catalogue filter option, "To Be Made Available for Mobile? Handles the download on command or schedule. Even if unique files are needed, or handled as a virtual copy.

I'd like to automagically have images available on my mobiles with syncable files. Just applying edits in a mobile device, saved w/unique names, would be good enough! Those times I choose to transfer raws from the camera direct to a mobile, too, I can. Then their file names would be the same in the cloud as on my NAS.

Whoops. Just needing to draw this out. Considering the gear & software I ought to be able to get what I want!

Thanks for nudge.

I prefer Light room classic, I want my photos with me not some one else up in the cloud.

Thanks for the info, very helpful! I keep seeing tutorial videos etc on YouTube and many of them are using Classic and I didn't even know that was a thing. It was making it more difficult to follow the videos!

I had an issue ages ago with Lightroom and lost all my images. I don’t trust it. I’d rather manager my own photos offline.

I love LRC but it has probably the most obtuse and unusable tethering function. Especially if you are using older equipment.

Capture One works every time for tethering with no hiccups. It just works. I keep Capture 1 on my laptop specifically for tethering and LRC on my other machines for actual catalog management and editing.
