Admin should be teaching if there aren't enough subs. They are teachers afterall.

When I was a young teacher in South Louisiana, a coworker had an after-school conference with a parent angry about their child's grade. The conference ended when the parent threw my coworker down the stairs, breaking her arm.

When she returned to school, she was met by 2 people from central admin who tried to pressure her NOT to press charges against the parent.
They didn't want "bad publicity for the school."

You make this sound funny but this is sad truth. I appreciate every single teacher out there. Thank you ❤

That half a class thing when no subs…..happened weekly. Then I found out principal was CANCELING subs, to save her budget. I quit, the end.

I went into premature labor at a teacher conference (on a Thursday), and my department head called my principal to let him know about it & to find a sub for me. He called my house to let me know that I needed to back at school for Parent/Teacher Conferences the next week. I was surprised that he didn’t make me pay back the conference fee since I was life flighted to a hospital instead of the conference.

It's so true! Administration at schools will make or break a school, especially w/ the staff!

An administrator asked me to write notes to parents after I had a stroke. I was in the hospital. I am not kidding..

I retired in 2019. Came back for one year... I returned to virtual teaching again!

Pulling six water bottles from the kids in the hopes that at least one had vodka in it would, indeed, be Russian roulette.

I actually believe those stories because I have heard from many other teachers just as sad and horrible experiences they had to go through.

All staff and students in the school I worked at were exposed to asbestos for two months. Staff and parents had asked multiple times if they had done testing. We were told it was all good.

Nope they hadn't tested, yes there was asbestos. Canada doesn't allow employees to sue employers for asbestos exposure. Because of that the board ran a half assed investigation and just kept gas lighting the exposure wasn't that bad. They hauled bins and bins of drywall out westing clean suits and respirators while we were teaching students! Every morning I had to wipe the dust off the desks that turned the cloths grey.

There was damage to my current school and contractors came in planning to just start work. I list it and said if the door to that classroom opened I would be gone. I didn't need a second asbestos exposure in under a year. The principal put her foot down and refused to let them in the room. Tests were done and SURPRISE there was asbestos! So much for the board's investigation and taking things seriously.

I now have to get checked yearly for signs of mesothelioma. That's what a specialist said to do, that's what I will do contrary to the board saying it's no big deal. If I develop a ln asbestos caused illness I can then sue the asbestos industry. The board is off scott free after ignoring the concerns of admin, staff, and parents.

I’ve had kids split into my class with more middle schoolers than seats. Fun class.

I was hospitalized with a serious emergency….My school (admin, secretaries, coworkers) were kept informed every day via my husband. My principal yelled at me when I returned because he was “expecting me back earlier”!!!!

Taken others classes is a pretty normal thing in my district but we get a whole $35 extra!! 😂 Sometimes we get to cover classes during our plan. 🙄

The one about the admin not telling the teacher about her daughter is awful!

The one with the cancer.. if she still had the thing, just ship it to the boss, and let him answer the question "do you think I should take care of ANY person yet?"
