An Apology And An Explanation

*** Today's Sudoku ***

This video is an apology video from Simon to Florian Wortmann and our viewers who noted (mostly more kindly than he deserved) that his solution in Tuesday's video was wrong. This time, Simon starts from the point at which he made the error (which was reasonably early) and tries again... hopefully with more success. He is VERY sorry.

You can play the puzzle at the link below:

Rules:
Normal sudoku rules apply. Digits along an arrow must sum to the digit in that arrow's circle. Cells separated by a knight's move (in chess) cannot contain the same digit. On the diagonal (marked in blue) digits cannot repeat.

The comments were by no means "kinder than you deserved": your efforts each day are a wonderful example and you would not be human if you did not occasionally make mistakes. And quite apart from anything else, it's reassuring for those of us who attempt these puzzles and frequently blunder to see that you are not infallible, I am amazed at the quality of your solves, day after day! Thank you

Thank you Simon, for this additional video on the puzzle and your kind words. Much appreciated :-) Don't let unkind comments get to you too much. Everybody makes a mistake once in a while and that's perfectly fine.
There are already some really nice comments below and those always outnumber the unkind comments by far. It is for a reason that there has grown such a big and friendly community around CTC.

Simon, you deserve kind comments even when you make a mistake! Seeing you and Mark occasionally make a mistake is reassuring for those of us who aspire to your level of sudoku and logic skills.

These mistakes only serve to remind us that you are human and certainly don't distract from my enjoyment, particularly when we get an extra video as a bonus. One suggestion might be that when your testers finish the puzzle, they add the solution to the version of the puzzle in the software. That way you get to actually check even the complex puzzles at the end.

We've watched you solve outstandingly difficult puzzles with incredible logic perfectly every day for years. Hours upon hours of entertainment!

You owe us no apologies for making a mistake. Thank you for this channel

Simon I guarantee you, you make far fewer mistakes on these things that us mere mortals do. Watching you battle your way through these puzzles is a delight, and seeing you occasionally make a small mistake just reminds us all that you're human too. You come back to us as if you've let us all down! Nothing could be further from the truth; both you and Mark give us super frequent content that's consistently brilliant and has definitely improved my own solve skills by an order of magnitude! Much love to you both 💜

One thing I love about Simon and Mark is their integrity. They have actual genuine *principles* that they care about. So many YouTube channels are just people willing to do absolutely anything to up their numbers. I enjoy getting to know Simon and Mark as *people* just about as much as I enjoy watching them solve Sudoku. The sad thing for me is that with their burgeoning fame I'll probably never get to take them out to lunch somewhere and thank them properly for all the many many hours of enjoyment and genuine self-improvement they've given me, not to mention comfort in times of misery.

Honestly, Simon, you have nothing but respect from me for both admitting the error and correcting it. To me, that shows both your commitment to your viewers and your passion and respect for puzzles and their correct solving. I've watched this channel for a while, due to the magic of algorithms, but this is the video that made me subscribe.

2:30 You got everything right except the one green placement. Surprisingly, the final grid could be corrected by swapping 7s and 5s there. That's the truly amazing thing. (To be honest, I was awaiting with bated breath the coming crash and burn.)
10:30 You took a lot longer to place the 6 "yesterday".

Never did I ever think I'd see an apology-video in the sudoku world 🤣

The fact that (for the first time) you made a mistake -on a puzzle where I actually got it right - was for me a precious gift from you, Simon! It is really inspiring to know that however good you or any other person is - we can all still make mistakes. And the reason I will keep watching your videos is because they are fantastically educating, and have improved my logic solving skills by several large factors - plus they're such fun! So you owe no apologies at all!

This is so interesting to watch, you do and say and think exactly the same things as in yesterday’s video even though that was months ago for you, it’s astonishing to behold really

Only the best channels on YT do mea culpa videos. Thank you for your British humility! Likely almost all of us forgave you ab initio.

I made the same mistake, but I caught mine a few minutes later and managed to back up and do it properly. A monstrous puzzle, up there with the very hardest

Here is the thing. You are just human and a magnificent one, I might add.
Thanks for redoing the the last part of this puzzle.
Last time I was completely confused, why you excluded green from there, but by the end I almost forgot about that part.
I realised the solution was wrong only after you klicked check, because then I looked at that arrow again.
You solve all these great puzzles, wich are way beyond me at this point, and make them look easy/managable.
Seeing you making a mistake, even just a small one like here, is a riminder, that this is achievable with experience and if you take a wrong turn, just own up to it.
You did exactly that.
Thanks for the effort, your patience, your advice and your inspiration!

We don’t watch a robot or a computer. We watch a human solve. I tune into this channel every morning when I wake up. That’s years of enjoyment I’ve received. Thank you.

Honestly I am new to this channel. I have been watching so many puzzles done by you. The regular sudoku still trips me up from time to time and I find the way you are able to deduce so amazing. It is reassuring to know that mistakes happen and even more so that you make another video showing where the mess up occurred and you resolving the puzzle! I love this. Thank you so much!

Everybody makes mistakes sometimes no need to worry about it. It's part of live. Glad you're good enough to admit it.

You've done some amazing work growing the Sudoku community! And we would always be grateful for that

Well done! It was amazing to watch you resolve that puzzle. Thank you.

Very generous of you to re-do a solve with which you were not satisfied. The author of the puzzle surely appreciates this treatment.
