An Apology & Explanation | A Very Personal Video for My Viewers

As promised in my previous upload, here is a personal video that I both wanted and needed to make. This video is dedicated to my viewers, and is meant as an apology, and to give an explanation as to why I've had some struggles with this channel in the past.

It feels like a positive step, posting this video, and I thank anyone who takes the time to watch it. I hope that, in some way, this video may also be helpful to anyone who may be feeling similarly to the topics covered.

As stated in this video, there will be changes implemented to the channel going forward, mostly of course, with comments now being enabled. Though I do so in the video, I also want to take the opportunity here to apologise once more, for having them disabled in past videos, and creating a radio silence in the channel's comments sections. As I explain, this was nothing to do with my audience, but completely with my own issues, and I am happy to be at the point now where I am able to put it right.

I love making videos, and this channel, and it's been truly incredible to have so many of you along for the ride.

Once more, thank you for your ongoing support!

Be sure to check out Steve's channel, too!

Fellow anxiety sufferer here. I've been in regular therapy since fall of 2019 and this summer began the process of revisiting the concept of medication to help find my way to an even keel. The first med my doctor and I tried hasn't proven helpful, so I'm currently in the process of tapering off of it and beginning an introductory dose of something new. Things are currently pretty rough for me mental health wise; everything is challenging for me right now, from professional endeavors, to maintaining interpersonal relationships, to even just basic self-care stuff like brushing my teeth.

All of which is to say: You are far from alone. Your vulnerability in posting this video is *incredibly* brave, and fwiw, this stranger from another continent is proud of you for it. And do what you need to do to take care of yourself, man. You aren't beholden to us just because we watch your videos. Your needs and health are important too, yeah? Not just your audience's need for entertainment and information.

I hope your dad's treatment goes as well as it possibly can. I know from experience how scary it is for someone you love to have to go through that. I'll be thinking of you. And hey, thanks for making your informational Oceangate videos. They've really been a welcome distraction from the uncomfortable landscape that's been my own head these last six months.

Yours has been the only channel ive been using to follow oceangate and your videos have been v good. I think your voice is well suited to narrating the videos, and your editing is brillant. Looking forward to more in the future!

I get the anxiety thing & from the sound of it, you know all too well how destructive it can be. Ref the comments section - it can be an utter sewer filled with unwarranted comments, but you should know that your recent OceanGate videos have been fantastic. It's been a great suite of documentary videos for the tragedy which have been well edited. Well done for the work you've done. And don't worry about your speaking voice, it sounds fine to me. As for your father - I lost my Dad this year to cancer, it is a hard journey as you are no doubt already aware and if making videos gives you a release from the stress and anxiety, then do it. You are there for your Dad when it matters and that's the important thing.

Thank you for this, most unexpected but greatly appreciated. Anxiety affects so many of us but is very rarely talked about. I wish you all the best!

I get it man, I make videos about stuff I make in my woodshop and I’m nervous with every video release, and actually watching the newest one upload right now

Your videos are great and any haters I catch I’ll gladly go off on them, you’re good

I absolutely understand it all, when I hear my own voice it's so painful. i can't distance myself from it, I know in my head that I sound like anyone else, and I don't sound that weird to anyone else, but it doesn't matter.

That is the most heartfelt video I have listened to in a long time. I appreciate your videos about the Titan tragedy, and I love your accent - either Irish or Scottish? Please know that there are untold numbers of us who struggle with anxiety, and I admire your openness about your struggles. It was touching to listen to. I hope your dad gets better and that you keep uploading videos! Greetings from the U.S. Northwest coast.

I do not normally comment on YouTube but this is one of the most honest videos I've seen on the platform. I know what you mean with your struggles sometimes it can be very hard. I'm a Titanic historian and I find your ocean gate stuff fascinating. The amount of editing and work that goes into it is incredible. Yours is the only edited ocean gate enquiry I've seen online. It's made watching the enquiry so much easier than the mess that was released from the coast guard enquiry. Great work and just ignore the negativity online!

Your Titan series has been amazing. I love your videos. You don’t have to excuse anything, at least to me, and am grateful for the work you do. Remember that we are all different, and you can’t be anyone else than you. Thanks ❤

Thank you so much for this video! I am absolutely a follower for the oceangate videos and the comments being turned off or on doesnt impact my engagement or interest at all.

I really enjoy the editing style you have, and i quite like your speaking voice!

COMMENTS! I'm proud of you man! You really did not need to shout me out whilst talking so personally, but the fact that you did goes a long way to showing the kind of character you are. I'll message you privately through email in the next couple of days when I get time.
By total coincidence, I'm looking to shout yourself and a couple of others out in my next video, which should be ready for upload tomorrow night or Saturday. But enough about that; I can't express how much I smiled when I clicked the video and noticed comments were open, anxiety can be a bitch and sometimes you will lose the odd battle, but as long as you keep getting up and pushing back, you win. Talk to you soon buddy.

There is anxiety, and then there is ANXIETY. Everyone can have anxiety about something; a decision, a purchase, a career decision, etc. And then there is a crippling anxiety over everything. I experienced the latter after changing antidepressants, and now I get it. I never want to feel that way again, and now I am fine.
