You are completely right. Just now i'm sitting in a nice Hotel for 3 days and forget my camera. So the best camera is the one you have in your bag. For me it's my Leica D-Lux 8. Since i bought this little beauty i don't use my bigger ones any more. I decided to use only the Leica until the end of the year. If i'm happy with the limitations i will sell all my other stuff. Thanks for your inspirations.

I recently got the Sony a7C II (paired with a Samyang 24mm f2.8) and the body has some pretty decent "film simulations" similar to Fujifilm, called "creative looks" which I know some people would shake their head and say "real photographers never use those" 🙄. But hold up – they're not bad! I've shot manually and post-processed for almost two decades now–I've "earned the right" to shoot jpgs with film simulations if it brings me joy. I'm in that phase of life where I don't want to spend time editing my photos – I want to like what I see through the EVF and move on 🤷‍♀ that's what everyday photography is to me–basically a phone camera workflow but with a more enjoyable physical user experience

Great advice. I’ve been taking photos since the 1960s when I was a lad and joined the camera club at my secondary school when I was 12 in 1971. When your pocket money was spent on film, developing chemicals and paper, you quickly learned when not to press the button. My best camera which I still own was my Minox GT. Pull the lens out, think about the focus distance needed, assess whether you needed 2x exposure and often put it on a wall as if forms a great stable little base. From 1984 it’s now 40 yrs old. The lens is amazing. As you said it’s the image history that matters. I think back to when my son was very young, when I met my wife, our trips to France, boating on the Thames it’s also gone around the world as a fun back up to MF gear including Fuji 6x9. I always use/d Fuji film mainly Velvia and Provia.
However, ergonomically if I had to name the best camera to use, whilst being simple to master it’s my EOS 1 with its battery grip. A thing of beauty, still in perfect condition 35 yrs on. I bought ban ex demo 80 to 200 2.8L, then a 20 to 35 2.8L in the late 1980s. It’s all built to last and the lenses still work well with my 5D mk 3. I did get the 24 to 105 f4 L with the 5D as an exit deal. It was £2k new and they threw in a manfrotto tripod, a bag and some cards. I used that as I needed to make some interview films. It paid for itself in 2 days back in 2015. Yes it is superb, but I’m still debating what to take in May on a trip of a lifetime - 3 weeks in China with a lot of touring. The pro stuff, my great little EOSM5 kit, or maybe go simple and get the great little Sony compact that does it all and fits in my pocket. It’s crazy expensive at about £1100. What would you do?

I carry my X100V everywhere, but living in the highlands, I mainly end up shooting landscapes, as opposed to it’s perhaps more usual street photography habitat. I’m glad to see another landscape photographer enjoying this wonderful piece of kit. Mine is fitted almost permanently with the excellent wide angle adapter and a wee circular polariser. It’s easy to remove and pop in a pocket if necessary, and doesn’t feel like a ‘lens’. I love this set-up, limitations and all. So much so, that I’ve ditched my DSLR and holy trinity of lenses - they just didn’t get a look in.

I have an original x100 love it but upgraded to the X100t absolutely loved it but killed it in a flash flood replaced it with the F wow fantastic kit. A couple of years ago I gave it to my old dad as his other kit was getting too heavy for him. Last month I went to see my dad off this mortal coil as we chatted a few days before he told me he loved the F so much he upgraded to the x100v which blew his mind. Dad’s gone now and left me his F and his V. I’ve not used the V yet not had time but when I do I’ll upload the results and be thinking of dad the whole way through.?Awesome review Rick cheers 📷❤️

I love this series! Looking forward to the next episode. I have had my X100V for over 2 years, and so many of my favourite photos were taken on it - probably because I always have it with me.

Another brilliant video Rick! Loved this one and can relate. I have started using my Nikon Zf with a prime and love it on walks with Pebbles.

Hi Rick - I'm an amateur who broke open his piggy bank to get the Z9 but just recently decided to buy a used Z50 as my everyday/holiday camera with the 16-50 zoom. Bonus is I can still use my 14-30 F4, 24-120 F4 and 100-400 from the Z9 kit, but you're right - it's a pleasure to have a camera small and light enough to go in a pocket to take anywhere without using a backpack!

Hi Rick, I’m with you, I love my Fujifilm XT4 and all the simulations and “recipes” lol. They make shooting such fun. If it’s fun, you are going to do it. Thanks for another great video. ❤

Sony a6300, just the 18-50 kit lens at the moment, it's in my possession most of the time...

This video is beautiful! So liberating to realize that no, I don't absolutely need the big and bulky full-frame camera. Since I travel and walk a lot, I too need something like the model you talk about in this video.

Haha, I so agree with you on the recipe thing. Perhaps they want a unique term for Fujifilm that is different from other brands.
I was going to get the XT5 as my everyday camera but you got me sold on the X100V, or maybe I will wait for a while for the hype to die down so I can get a gently used X100VI at a more affordable price. That one seems to have many of the weaknesses of the X100V solved

Great video and very true, sometimes I just not able to take the main camera out and wish I had a smaller one.

Another great video Rick. Never used a Fujifilm camera so don't understand all the hype, especially at the prices being asked. My everyday set up is a Nikon Z30 with kit lens. It surprised me how good the images are with this. When necessary I can also use the lenses I have for my Z7 so for me, smallish, good pics and versatile.

Excellent images
Great lens

Recipes/customisable Image coontrol
APSC sensor in a tiny body
Genuinely pocketable (jeans pocket vs coat pocket of other pocketables)

Only drawback for some is no viewfinder.

Thanks Rick, another thought provoking and enjoyable video.

I'm in the process of changing from a Canon 6D mk2 to an Olympus OM1 and will see if I need anything other than a Panasonic DMC GM1 as an edc. Its served me well for about 7 years and I still love using it.

Great video, my everyday camera is a Lumix DMC-TZ8 I find it a great camera and it can fit in a shirt pocket or just about anywhere. It has all the modes I want, the only thing is it doesn't shoot RAW but it comes with me everywhere and I picked it up on ebay in mint condition with a charger and 2 batteries for £23.00. The best but is its a Leica lens and the optical zoom is incredible and CCD sensor pictures are amazing.

I adore my original Fuji x100s. And I’m waiting for my x100vi to land in my hands. I agree with all the faults, and weigh that against all the joys. And still land on the same camera. Wish I wasn’t as indecisive on the film simulations. But I feel a whole lot better hearing you say the same thing …!
